    Line-In Synchronization

Now that there is mini boom (Radio) on the block. Will Line-In synchronization be backported to the Boom?

If I understand what you're asking, I believe the line-in on both Boom and Radio are for local to the device only use. IOW listen to your iPod over the Boom or Radio speaker(s) but not also on any other Squeezebox.

The capability is there. I tried it tonight before I posted. I plugged my cell into the line-in and had all of my squeezebox controller, duet remote, and squeezeslave synchronize to my Boom. They all showed Line-In as the Now Playing source but there was no audio being played on the other devices.

    No Line-in Audio over network

That's exactly what I said. Audio is local to the Line-in device only. And if the Boom is the master device playing from Line-in that all the other devices are sync'd to it then no audio to any other Squeezebox because again I believe Line-in is local only to the device. The Line-in audio only has a path to the Boom or Radio DSP amp then to the speaker(s) as I understand it. So there is no way to get it backboned on the network to other players. So no audio, but the "State" of the Boom is a command that can travel on the network and shows up on the other sync'd players. Again this is how I understand it to function. Caleb or Andy could probably verify this and/or correct anything I might have wrong.

    Line-In Synchronization

Right, Line-in is local only. However, with Squeezebox Radio, we now have a
Linux based device with line-in to the ARM processor.

If anybody is motivated, I'd love to see somebody write a synchronization
    routine :-)

We'll probably get to it eventually, but if somebody is handy with linux
programming and highly motivated, let me know.

I looked at your Boom Whitepaper, Caleb. Very tragic that the line input can't be processed and sent over the network on the Boom.

This is actually a product idea of it's own an iPod dock mp3 line in rca line in adc network thingy, that could be a music source in SC, it probably have to be proxied by SC to get sync workning.
This thing should have no speakers or outputs on its own.

Edit: throw in a toslink input too so everyone can have their tv sound

It's probably down to a hardware limitation of the IP3K system used in the Boom.

The ARM system used in the Radio, Touch and the Controller is much more flexible and far more powerful.

I know. We wanted to implement it, but the CPU on Boom is totally maxed out. We just don't have the mips, or the mental capacity to make it go on that processor.

With Radio, it will be possible, and also, perhaps, with touch with USB audio device.

I'm really looking forward to see what people do with those features.

    slightly OT...

caleb - in regards to you saying "the CPU on the boom is totally maxed out", i have found the boom can play some _extreme_ vorbis files, whereas the SB classics can not.

    http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66592

why is it that the boom seems to actually have _more_ processing power than the classic?
