Squeezecenter on Windows Server 2008 R2?

Does anyone have Squeezecenter running on Windows Server 2008? I'd like to know how hard or easy this is to install on 2008 and whether it runs well.Thanks...

Yes - no major problems (currently running SP2 as a Hyper-V guest with 1GB RAM). However you will need to install the Desktop Experience (Server Manager > Features) in order for SC to work. I have had the "can't resolve IP address" problem (see other threads) but hopefully fixed this by setting the SC service to "Automatic (Delayed Start)". I'll be upgrading to Win Svr 2008 R2 (RTM) in the next week or so - if I get any problems I'll update this thread.

    Cheers - Graham

Thansk - thats encouraging to hear. TW, had you considered Windows Home Server and do you find this OS to be a plus over WHS for this type of usage?

    Hi

Just to let you know that I'm now running SC on WinSvr 2008 R2 and all appears to work okay (although for the record I upgraded from SP2 rather than performing a clean install).

As for Windows Home Server, I've heard good things about it in terms of what it's designed to do, however it doesn't have the same capabilities as a fully-fledged server. In fact, I'm not sure whether apps can be installed on WHS, so something to check before going down this route.

    Cheers - Graham

I have been running SC 7.3 under WHS on a Tranquil PC for the last 6-9 months with no issues at all. Works a treat.

I am running the 'vanilla' x86 version of SC 7.3 on WHS i.e. the one that runs on XP/Vista/2003 etc.

A 'native' WHS beta version of SC 7.4 is available to play with if you are into that sort of thing.

Folks who have this running, are you using workgroups or active directory? And how did you set up your files to be shared?

Just to report back on this it has worked pretty well so far and have even been able to set up Squeezebox Server to autorun as a service that initiates even if I am not logged into the server. Excellent overall.

    how to start as service?

Was running previous version of Squeezebox Server without issue. Just installed 7.5.2. I now see no service named Squeezebox Server. Using the Squeezebox Server Control Panel the 'Automatically run and system start' seems to have no affect. tried doing it without a username/password, with domain\username password and username password

This is an old, ongoing problem with the Control Panel. It should run fine under the local SYSTEM account, unless it needs particular file access permissions or needs access to a network share.

You could install the service manually. The following may work. As an administrator, from a command line, in the the Squeezebox Server directory where squeezesvr.exe is located, type:

    squeezesvr --install

If that doesn't work, there are other tools for manually installing a Windows service.

THANKS! I ran that command and got:
    OpenSCManager failed: Access is denied
