    patch -p0 < {name of patch file}

You may need to be root to do that and/or need to fix the permissions.

    Then restart the server.
Ok, that sounds easy enough ...

It also seems to work fine (much better than the hack using mplayer)

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Elusive Absolute Radio stream URLs

Do you have any of the actual URLs for the Absolute Radio streams?
This is a good question, to which I'm determined to find the answer.

    Absolute Radio stream URLs

(All streams below are playable in VLC media player and latest stable version of foobar2000 but note, these streams don't run 24/7, but they probably would if more people used them besides myself and a handful of others).

    Absolute Radio http://icecast.as34763.net/absoluter....uk/arflac.ogg

    Absolute Classic Rock http://icecast.as34763.net/absoluter....uk/acflac.ogg

    Absolute Radio 90s http://icecast.as34763.net/absoluter....uk/a9flac.ogg

As far as I can tell none of these links work. Tried 3 of them in Tune In with no output (what is the operating times for stations EST)

Your guess is as good as mine. There is no set schedule for when Absolute plays these streams. As I say in the title of this reply, supply follows demand. Unless more of us tune in, there is less incentive for them to turn on (more regularly). I prefer late night and the wee hours of the morning (London time), only because that's when they play more of the off-beat and just plain cool.

Forgive the Columbo "Oh, Sir, just one more thing," but when you copied those links, you did right-click to do so, right? Ellipses make a poor substitute for actual URL information sent to the servers. Btw, as of this post, http://icecast.as34763.net/absoluteradio.co.uk/a8flac.ogg (Absolute Radio 80s) is working (in any decent media player: VLC media player, foobar2000, and mplayer qualify).

Getting this output when I try to play in VLC:

    Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://localhost:8080/absoluteradio.co.uk/a0flac.ogg'. Check the log for details.

Just copied the 80s link and opened in foobar2000 and it plays (and is showing as a FLAC file). Some of the other links don't work at all (so must be off at the moment?)

Why does this URL have "localhost:8080" (which is the PC running VLC) rather than "icecast.as34763.net" which is in the referred links ?

Quite right it was the wrong link. Tried again with the 80s station using http://icecast.as34763.net/absoluter....uk/a8flac.ogg in Foobar but it didn't connect to anything. I will try later

EDIT: I used Tune In and now have playback for the 80s station (please forgive my ineptitude, not technologically gifted). Station appears to be playing in format Ogg Flac but Bitrate: 128kbps CBR (Converted to 705kbps FLAC)
