G'day.
For some reason I'm able to find certain artists/albums, but when I select for them to play (Play All), I get a message on my SB3 screen that states "Empty". This is all the more bizarre, as I go into the server and find that all the flac files for the album are there. I've tried clearing the library and doing a fresh scan, but that doesn't correct the problem. I also get the message "Problem: Can't open files"
Any ideas on why this would happen...and how to fix it?!
Cheers

Accented characters and MusicIP the culprit...but how to fix?
I think I've found the issue, if not the solution. I noticed that the problem is common to files which have accented characters.
So the files from artists like "Sérgio Mendes", "Röyksopp" and others won't play (although they used to!).
I had a dig around the SC settings, but couldn't find anything that refers to handling accented characters (although I seem to recall there had been something that accounted for this). I then wondered if this was triggered by installing MusicIP a few months back...and from a google, it looks as though it may well be.
There are a number of posts out there, and the encoding for me, a Linux noob, looked pretty daunting but they seem to indicate that a bug fix was developed for versions that long precede my installation.
If anyone does know of a solution, I'm all ears, but please assume you're dealing with someone of neanderthal Linux skills (how many neanderthals have you ever seen running Linux?).Gus

I have a similar problem. On some folders songs are missing or i see no covers. Also get the message in the server.log that the file couldn't be opened. The problem is gone when i disable MusicIP and let squeezecenter scan the music library again. At the moment i think it's maybe because i use a external drive that's formated with ntfs and the problem is because of the different character sets.

Try changing the file names to remove these "special" characters. Remember that Squeezecenter gets its database values for song title, etc, from the tags and not the filenames (except, possible if you only navigate by folders rather than scanning and using the Albums, Artists or Genre to select albums and/or songs).

Prefer not to remove accented characters
Hi tcutting...
As a substantial proportion of my music has accented characters, I'd really prefer not to simply wipe them out (besides, it would be very time consuming). If push came to shove, I'd disable MusicIP, but after the considerable work involved setting that up, I'd rather not.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
I think I'll reluctantly follow ilmonstro's suggestion and disable it for the time until another solution's proposed.
Cheers,
GGus
