After installation of SqueezeCenter 7.3.3 using the Perl source code version my controller did not offer me to update its firmware. A quick look into the folder /SqueezeCenter/Firmware left me puzzled as I did not see any file whose name looked like it was a firmware for the controller. So I would like to know from where the controller gets its firmware?

So the controller looks directly at the link you provided, not at /SqueezeCenter/Firmware?
Is there any way to force the controller to look for an updated firmware? Currently it runs 7.3 r3993. When I select Settings --> Advanced --> Software Update, the only choice that is shown is Cancel.Carsten

SqueezeCeneter looks at the HTTP site to know what to download into the \\server\firmware (Players only) or \\SqueezeCenter\cache (conroller) directory
\\SqueezeCenter\cache > Jive.x.BIN = SBC firmware
SBC when music source = SC will look at \\squeezecenter\cache directory specifically jive.version to know what to load onto the device
SBC when music source = SN will look at the HTTP site specifically jive.version to know what to load onto the device
enable DEBUG player.firmware to know what is going on
hope that helps explain itLast edited by jrichardson; 2009-06-18 at 10:38.

After switching music source to SqueezeNetwork, the controller immediately began to update its firmware. Wow!
Thanks for the information!Carsten
