LOL! It's "Squeezebox Server" now? Should have just called it "Bing Server"

and left no doubt about how little creativity there is in the Logitech marketing department.

Apparently Microsoft isn't the only company going through a branding crisis.

Well what would you have wanted them to call it? Why is that telling you that there is no creative work going on? It's not like that is going to make people want to buy it. I'd rather they have the creative end going to new ideas and new functions rather than buzz words. Good luck on that.
If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use is the rule.

What was wrong with the old name? Or the one before that?

The only thing I can think of is that all the "squeeze" names began to have a numbing sameness to them... squeezebox, squeezecenter, squeezeplay, squeezenetwork so that they became almost indistinguishable after a while. But that was all a product of the last wave of marketing turmoil, which wasn't very long ago.

It confused just about every new user we tested.
Squeezebox,SqueezeNetwork,SqueezeCenter, nobody could keep track of
    what's what.

    > Or the one before that?

That was "SlimServer" which was based on the name of a company that no
longer exists and had nothing to do with the product at all.

    Exactly right. Very good.

Yes. And they got it wrong. And they don't work here anymore.

    So, we try to improve.

The thing you buy is a Squeezebox. To set up an account, you'll go to
mysqueezebox.com (would have preferred squeezebox.com, but it was
    taken).

To play music stored on your computer you install the Squeezebox
software, which includes the Squeezebox Server.

Seems pretty straightforward. We'll continue to test it with new (and
existing) customers and make sure we're actually improving things.

Using the word "server" again is actually good, it gives some information to the user about the program.

For many users, SquuzeCenter means the web interface. It would be nice to give the web ui a clear, distinct moniker somehow. Esp. since with TinySC/--no-web there is no web ui.

Yep, we're planning to give it a distinct name. Should be out soon.

    Dean/Michael, good move IMO.

Squeezecenter was a terrible name, totally ambiguous and confusing to new users - i got sick of explaining it to people elsewhere TBH. Squeezebox Server is what it always should have been called. Too many people asked, 'what is it'? 'is it some sort of extra media player/manager?', 'do i need it?'.

I like the "Does what it says on the tin" approach.

Interesting though that you plan to split the webUI and core server into two seperate and distinctly named elements. In theory that sounds like a good idea, especially with things like the new control pannel. Have not got a clue what the best thing you could call it is though! not sure you guys know just yet either
    Cheers, auto.
