Hi!
We've recently seen too many complaints about the new control panel for
Windows (_not_ Windows Home Server or OSX) which was introduced with the
SqueezeCenter 7.4 beta. Reports have gone from random crashes (which I've
seen, too) to completely locking up systems. If you've experienced any of
these, please help us track down these issues by answering the following
questions:
- what Windows version are you using?
- what video card & drivers are you using?
- looking at the task manager, do you see squeezeboxcp.exe?
- is squeezeboxcp.exe eating all CPU?
- is squeezeboxcp.exe using all/a lot of memory? How much?
- does the control panel at least sometimes work?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Control Panel (Windows) issues - please report

I only have a serious problem with the control panel immediately after a fresh install of recent versions of 7.4. The control panel process needs to be killed before SC will startup for the first time. Once SC has started up once, you can reboot the computer and/or stop/start SC without a problem.
- what Windows version are you using? XP Pro with SP3
- what video card & drivers are you using? Radeon X500, latest drivers
- looking at the task manager, do you see squeezeboxcp.exe? Yes
- is squeezeboxcp.exe eating all CPU? No
- is squeezeboxcp.exe using all/a lot of memory? How much? Not all but lots - not sure precisely how much but will check next time it happens.
- does the control panel at least sometimes work? Other than on a first start up of SC following an install, yes it does most of the time, although it sometimes appears to freeze and needs to be manually killed, however I can't reliably reproduce this.Who am I on LAST.FM?

Vista 64 here. I find the control panel very unresponsive, getting more unresponsive the longer its left open. When i try and close it, more often than not it will just freeze and require killing from the task manager.
However I kill it, or if I manage to close down normally, I almost always get windows telling me that 'squeezebox cleanup has crashed'.
Windows performance and reliability monitor does not seem to show anything too serious or obvious in terms of memory/cpu use for squeezeboxcp.exe - maybe i am not using it correctly?
TBH, i never really use it as i administer my vista box from my laptop using SC's web interface and VNC. I would like the option when installing SC to not include the control panel. Although i dont mind helping beta test it.
Same here.
PS, the GRX card is a Geforce 7800GT with driver 178.13 (not the latest, but not very old).Last edited by autopilot; 2009-06-02 at 03:40.

There were quite a few issues I fixed today. The blocker at startup should
be gone by now. Please give it another try.

That's surprising, as the issues I've fixed today would block it on any
start (it was missing some file). But anyway - the latest build should
behave much better. Thanks for your feedback!

I've downloaded and tested 7.4 26808 on my SC which is running XP pro (SP3) - no issues at all so far. Great job!
Thanks, MS

This thread is about the locking up of the control panel. Please post
update issues to its own thread. Thanks.

Reinstalled 7.4 and the control panel it works much better now than when I tried a few weeks ago (no more crashes). However, it's still a little unresponsive when I switch tabs, and when I hit the Scan button, I have no visual feedback untill the last step (cleaning the database) so it looks like the program isn't doing anything, but it's actually scanning in the background.
Other than that, everything is fine.

Are there any particular tabs which are slow to react or in general?

Yeah, realised this today. First update is done after 10 seconds - pretty
late.
