Is there any chance to get the ithreads support in a parallel package ?
I think not having ithreads is the main reason, why the official built binaries of SB-Server 7.4.x are not working (as after installing a proper debian on the linkstation these binaries started to work).
What a pity that with ithreads other things brake
On the other hand andyg posted somewhere else, that for the Touch they also might be doing non-ithreads builds of SB-Server - so this might be only a matter of time until 'easy to install' 7.4-packages are available?

Thanks bzhou - I, and I'm sure many others, appreciate the work you put in to give us the ipkg packages
Along with the other contributors like TiredLegs and andyg it really makes the Linkstation a convenient, & low power, way to run SC.
I broke squeezecenter on my LS-GL yesterday so look forward to the updates coming through. I've also just bought a SB Radio too (& am very pleased with it) so am hoping to put 7.4 on my new LS-XHL when the packages are ready.

Ditto - thanks bzhou

For newbies who very recently upgraded and are getting the error:
/opt/etc/init.d/S99squeezecenter start
Starting SlimServerSlimserver failed to run. Return value: 0
...providing you had already done the seds from TiredLegs' instructions you just need to do:
/opt/bin/ipkg update
/opt/bin/ipkg upgrade
reboot
(not sure if the reboot is actually required but I did it for good measure)

Big thanks!
I would like to express my gratitude to all who have made the process of installing Squeezecentre on my Linkstation (relatively) pain free, specifically TiredLegs and bzhou. I even registered to do it!

Cannot copy files into the share folder
Thanks to everyone for their help so far with getting squeezecenter running on my LS-GLB28. However I now find I cannot rebuild my music library because I'm not allowed copy files into the share folder. I've mapped network drives to my previous folder and to the share folder but when I try to copy them I'm told I've not got permission to copy to that folder. I'm not sure if it's the right share folder I'm using.
I'd be grateful for any help.Last edited by macanucaire; 2009-11-18 at 06:59.

Here's Today's Screw Up
Learned Colleageus:
In a moment of stupidity today, I hit "Update Software" on my remote so it now has the 7.4 software.
Will this work with the SqueezeCenter 7.3.3 that's on my NAS?
I can't even test since a power glitch the other day has trashed my install on the NAS and before I go through a re-install, I'd like to know if I'm doomed from the start.
If I'm doomed, anyone know how to get the remote to revert to the older version?
Thanks again for your invaluable help!

It will sort of work with a 7.3.3 server.
Anyway - when you connect to it, it should ask you again if you want to 'update' (which then indeed means downgrade).
If that doesn't happen automatically you can also force it to do so ... deep in the advanced settings you will find a firmware menu which will also have the 'old' 7.3.3 firmware available (of course only when you are connected to a 7.3.3. server)Did you know: SqueezePlayer will stream all your music to your Android device. OK, here's what I learned today...
1. As bluegaspode correctly said, when I started up, the remote wanted to "upgrade" to 7.3.3 off the NAS, but the connection wouldn't work so I was screwed, at least I thought I was.
2. I went to http://downloads.slimdevices.com and plucked out the 7.3.3 SqueezeCenter and loaded it on a computer and set things up there. I turned off my NAS.
3. When I then turned on the remote, it locked on the computer with 7.3.3 and "updated" to 7.3.3 successfully.
4. Turned off the computer and turned the NAS back on and voila, everything is wonderful again!!!

OK, I'm back up, but have learned some stuff...
Figured some may benefit so here's my saga, no longer a tale of woe!
1. First, a remote with 7.4 cannot work with SqueezeCenters of the 7.3 generation. The reason my remote asked to upgrade was because it couldn't connect to the SqueezeCenter in my system and went "home" to Mother Logitech via the internet and Mom wanted it to upgrade.
2. Once I got my Buffalo back up and running the remote did ask to "Upgrade" to 7.3.2, the version on the NAS. Unfortunately, due to timing or connection issues, it could never download the package so I got into an endless loop here. The remote wanted to "Upgrade" and even though the upgrade fail, it still wanted to upgrade the next time I turned it on, etc. I called up Logitech and they determined I was screwed. However, I never give up!
3. I went to http://downloads.slimdevices.com, loaded 7.3.2 on a network computer, disconnected my NAS, setup SqueezeCenter on the network computer and directed the remote to that computer as the music source. When I powered her up, the remote immediately asked to "Upgrade" to 7.3.2 which was successful.
4. I uninstalled SqueezeCenter from the computer mentioned above and reconnected the NAS. When I turned on the remote, everything was working fine.
Hope someone out there has undertaken to convert 7.4 to IPKG just so I don't fall into this trap again...Last edited by Imperial Zeppelin; 2009-11-25 at 09:41.
