I do think that many suffer from these types of issues however I did also think that some of this was staged. It seemed pretty funny to me that the guy knew to store the remote like he did right after putting the battery in the remote.
Going through the steps even if some of this was staged still does highlight the effort to setup the technology. I don't think you can make it so simple that one would not have to "read the manual" but there are areas that might help.
How about a video done in similiar fashion but used for installation / education purposes.
Step one, unbox the product. Two - do the battery thing, Three .....
You could show how to set the security code and lots of other things. If this was professionaly done like some of the education videos out there it would help most people.
I think also going through on the video what you need first, ie network, wireless router etc. You could also educate on the need for security on these if they have an open router.
Beyond that I guess you could always offer a paid service and using remote control software help install SC and walk through with them on the phone the Boom / SB configuration.
Assume the person who is attempting this has really no knowledge of networking other than he / she plugged in a router and has a pc connected to the internet.

Evidently the concept of multiple music sources (SqueezeCenter and SqueezeNetwork) need to be explained better. As well as the differences are between them.
As this particular user noted in a comment to his own video, "Well Boom works now fantastic for me. Once you understand the concept it is a fantastic product."
Also the fact that you're given the PIN only after you've chosen to connect to SqueezeNetwork is seemingly not obvious. Plus the fact that users seem to think that the given PIN "belongs" to their Squeezebox is a misconception that should be cleared up.
As froth mention in the post above, an instruction video would be a really cool thing to do.
