"(Disc 1)" Appended to Album Name

A quick and dirty way to remove this nagginess without retagging all your mp3s, is in the squeezecenter settings, on the Music Library tab, set "Treat multi-disc sets as single album" under the Group Discs category.

If they're all single albums, it'll get rid of the "Disc 1" after everything.

You may need to clear/rescan your library, not sure.

(oh and make sure the album title is the same across ALL tracks in all disks) and it works perfectly.

This becomes a little bit of an issue, in my case, because I can not have two folders with the same name (Album Title) under the same (Artist) folder. e.g

Artist Name (folder)
Album Name1 (Sub-folder with the content of CD 1)
Album Name1 (Sub-folder with the content of CD 2)

This is illegal under most file systems naming conventions. You can not have two separated sub-folders with the same name off the same folder. In my case, when I rip a CD I use the Artist Name Tag to create the main folder and the Album Name Tag to create the corresponding sub-folders with the corresponding Album name. This is the reason why I add CDx after the name of each multi CD album for a specific artist. I have to give different names to each the sub-folders to abide by the folder/file naming convention. I have a few World Music multi-CD albums that have more than 20 tracks per CD. Merging them under a single folder is not convenient when I navigate the library using the folders.

What is wrong with a solution that suppresses the "display" of the DISC/DISCNUMBER tag under the SC setting for the Web UI and for the Players? Again, my FLAC library is "not" used "exclusively" with SC.

I'm using dBpowerAmp. Using your naming scheme I would have another sub-folder level. Increasing the folder depth makes folder navigation more inconvenient and actually impossible for one of my players to use as it only supports two levels of sub-folders off the root.

i do it like you, and think thats the best way, but some people actually treat multi cd albums as ONE FOLDER, so that both cds go into one folder, and that folder is simply the album name.

thats not for me, but there's lots of ways to do it.

That wasn't what I meant. The folder names are different, but the ALBUM tags across all tracks in a set are the same.

Nothing against such a folder structure (a lot of my multi-disc sets have exactly this structure -- others have the one I earlier mentioned). As Phil says: just make sure the Album *tag* is the same in all files in both folders and all works well.

When browsing by folder, yes; when browsing by artist (tags), no. In the last case you have one list, where each track (depending on the display settings chosen of course) is preceded by 1-1, 1-2, ..., 2-1, 2-2, etc. If you don't want it this way, why setting 'Treat multi-disc sets as one album'?

Exactly what setting did you adjust to append the Disc x to the end of the Album Folder name as you rip a multi-CD Album? Do you also use the DISC tag and if so, doesn't SC add (Disc x of x) when displaying the album name? In other words, if the DISC tag is set to x/x does SC display the Album Name as The Wall Disc 1 (Disk 1 of 2). Btw, I use the DISC tag when I search for tracks using interfaces other than SC. My understanding is that dBpowerAmp uses the DISC tag which is then mapped to the DISCNUMBER tag in SC. Also note that in dBpowerAmp I use the "Album Artist" tag to create the Artist folders to accommodate Album compilations made up of various artists which some times are made up of multiple CDs. See example below.

Using the folder structure above makes it easy for me to navigate albums using folders when the interface does not support tags. I have no functional problems with interfaces that use tags to naviagate and search my libraries using my existing folder and tag scheme. I only have a "cosmetic" issue with SC because it adds the (Disc x of x) to the end of the Album Names when displaying in the Now Playing screen of my SB3 and when viewing the library using the SC Web UI or any interface that uses the SC engine. Again, all I want is a SC option to hide the (Disc x of x) when the DISC/DISCNUMBER tag is present.
