Help-transfer plugins (espec TrackStat) XP to VortexBox NAS

I found an old laptop and put on VortexBox as a NAS -

Works!! (amazing I have no idea about Linux).

I now want to install all my plugins on the Linux VortexBox.

I now want to ensure that all my TrackStat is copied over for my large music library. Possible also for Dynamic Playlists etc.

I have found the thread about where files are located -

but logic suggests if I copy all config files the paths to the files will be wrong.

So what do I copy to keep data?

Any help would be appreciated.

Many of the plugins can now be downloaded from the user interface. The plugins on VortexBox are located in /var/lib/squeezecenter/Plugins

What plugin are you interested in?

The trackstat plugin also has an option to backup/restore data to/from a file (never tested it though). And as agillis already said, most plugins can be downloaded in the Extension Donloader now, so you won't run into file permission problems.

I have discovered (using the GUI on Windows) the ease of using the Repositries to get the PlugIns on the VortexBox (same as in Windows).

As I have used Squeezecenter on my Windows machine for a year or more, I really would like to get the TrackStat ratings for each music file transferred rather than starting again.

The directory structure and paths to files on the XP box and Linux VortexBox are not the same, so what do I have to look at to alter and get the stats to apply to the files on Linux?

TrackStat has a backup feature that is part of it's interface. Backup up TrackStat using windows. Call the file something like trackstat.bak Then connect over the network to your vortexbox SMB share. Put the trackstat.bak files in \\vortexbox\files\music\playlist the go to the user interface on your VortexBox and restore from file. That's it.

But for novices even contemplating the command line is hard. For example, although I will no doubt work it out, your instruction

presumes I know where (and how) to put the mplayer file on the Linux machine (that I downloaded on Windows) to get it installed on VortexBox.

I think the Squeezebox is great and VortexBox does the trick to make it an always on system independent of my Windows machine.

But because of the difficulties of use even on Windows, Squeezebox will always remain a niche product for people with a desire to try different things and who have a great deal of patience.

No.. that's the beauty of linux. That command will download it from an online repository and install it for you.

I have put on all the plugins that I had on my windows machine on VortexBox and only 2 cause problems.

Biography and Album Review do not seem to parse the HTML code and are therefor unreadable because of the literal presentation of text and commands in one.

Is that a matter to raise with VortexBox developers or the plugin developers?

You should talk to the plugin developers. Are you using the same version of the plugin on each machine? I will add a little "Introduction to the Linux command line" section to the VortexBox website when I get a chance. Thanks for your input.
