Problem with mysqld starting when browsing Music Folders

When I browse to Music Folders mysqld kicks off and SC locks up (presumably as it waits for mysqld to be done.) This happens for each folder level. SC stays unresponsive for variable amounts of time, typically 1-5 minutes. I think I read somewhere that SC scans folders when you navigate them to add items to the database, so I can understand mysqld running, but SC freezing up for such long times is new behavior for me. The folders typically have 10-40 (large) files in them, often nothing that's not already in the database. After navigating once to a folder, re-navigating doesn't take nearly as much time (at least for a couple of hours). Any thoughts on what I might have inadvertently done to get this behavior?
