I think you need to add 2b:

Find your Squeezebox Server cache folder. In that folder you'll find a 'my.cnf' file. In Windows it may appear as a shortcut named just 'my' (because the file exension .cnf has special meaning in Windows). Delete the file. (courtesy of jjzolx)

hmm, the "my" file in my cache, if i have the right place and file, looks like a shortcut as an icon, but i don't see to what. i don't see the cnf on it either, even tho i have all the view options set to show me everything. that must be what jims talking about when he says cnf is special, but i wonder how you then see cnf if you want to?

when i renamed it my.txt it didn't open to notepad. very very weird.

i just wanted to take a stab here at a "win-dummies" guide to installing moonbases tweaks. i want to be absolutely sure i know what i am doing before i attempt it:

make sure you know your last scans stats prior to any of this!

1. download moonbase's my.tt.txt from post 18

3. find the SBServer cache folder, which is normally located at:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Squeezebox\Cache

and delete a file called my.cnf which might appear as a shortcut w/an icon of a monitor simply named: my

4. backup your current copy of my.tt which is normally located at:

C:\Program Files\Squeezebox\server\MySQL

to a safe place. then delete it from its original location.

5. copy moonbases downloaded file to the my.tt original location.

6. rename moonbase's file to remove the .txt at the end.

7. if desired, reboot the computer (safer). if not, simply restart SBS.

8. run a full "clear and rescan" and see how much better it is, then report it back here to this thread.

i just tried this, and it did NOT go well.

the first time the cpu got spiked, hard drives cranked, etc... so i rebooted.

the second time things were more "normal" after a bit in task manager, however my system drive just would not stop cranking. it was a steady loud pitch, with a machine gun like burst of varying lengths, and it went on and on until finally i stopped the SBS.

then i tried to open the my.tt file with notepad, and got semi garbage. however, when i opened with wordpad all was well. so i [re]saved in wordpad, and then reopened with notepad and i could read it.

after that i restarted SBS hoping that was the issue. it might have been, i'm not sure. i got the same cranking however this time it stopped. but in task manager "windows defender" aka MsMpEng.exe started freaking out or so it seems.

eventually that did stop and all seems normal now. i could probably run tests and so on... but it took at least 10min to get to this point. i'm going to try another reboot this time with "start automatically at login" enabled.

upon reboot, with start at login enabled, it went very smoothly this time. so i will try a clear and rescan now. however i am interested to see if i get the same issues when i disable start auto at login.

at this point, i'm not sure why it was all so screwy the first few times, but things it might be include windows defender, needing to resave moonbases file in wordpad, SBS starting options.

my first attempt to clear and rescan from control panel resulted in the scanner.exe crashing, and microsoft asking me to report it, which i always do.

second try it worked, altho one thing i don't like is that the "clear" part of the operation doesn't seem to be "counted" in the elapsed time. i'd say it took 2-3min for that, but i wasn't keeping close watch.

my scan finished about 9 minutes quicker. i think my results aren't as "dramatic" b/c i use an ext usb2 drive. meanwhile the webui has become very UNRESPONSIVE in that when i click home > albums it takes many multiple times to do anything.

when it finally does, it cranks the hard drive unmercifully even after all the albums / art load. windows defender doesn't seem to be involved this time either.

stop SBS, and the HD stops cranking. everything else on reboot is fairly idle with SBS at 8-15% constant CPU usage while doing nothing. its just unrelenting.

msqld goes from about 1-10%

mem usage mysqld = ~60meg
sbs = ~133meg

quit sbs, restart sbs, now sbs = 1-6megs, but hard drive cranks awful again. eventually, after a few minutes it does stop. this time, windows defender may be involved, i'm not sure, something happened in task manager.

something is amiss here. i think moonbases changes are solid, i just think that somehow it conflicts with something i have here, although i have no idea what. nothing i'm doing here is too unusual.

In another thread, someone was having a problem like this and it was due to having a very large now playing list that Squeezebox Server had to load every time it was started.

I applied Moonbase's my.tt tweaks this weekend (my server is similarly spec'd to his according to post 1 in this thread), along with clearing my cache and some other changes. I have not had any problems, in fact, my performance is massively improved. I suspect a lot of the improvement had to do with clearing my cache.

Unfortunately, I can't give any good benchmarks for the my.tt change because I did other things at the same time. My initial music scan was done while my server was also doing a backup so it was slower than usual and is not a good point of comparison. My "new and changed" nightly scan was a few minutes shorter than it used to be, though.

Yes, it is a cached version. My understanding is that it will override the my.tt. It gets created when mysql starts.

I don't know how to force it to show the cnf, but that is the right file.

you could check the file size, but here's what i would do:

quit sbs, slim*, mysql*, etc... all slim/squeeze/logi-anything.

go to your slim cache and delete the " my " or " my.cnf " file.

reboot, restart SBS, and the new cached file of moonbases my.tt file will now be in the cache for sure.
