A friend just turned me on to Terrence Blanchard's "A Tale of God's Will (Requiem for Katrina)". Absolutely freaking fantastic. Not quite sure how to classify it, it was originally written as the soundtrack to HBO's "When the Levee's Broke". Heavily jazz inspired, although not quite what you'd generally think of as traditional jazz. But absolutely beautiful, sorrowful music.
Strongly recommended.

Thanks Eric for the great recommendation!
I picked the CD up earlier today so I've only heard it once but I liked what I heard. Some very nice trumpet playing and well written compositions with finely crafted arrangements and a subtle and tasteful orchestral accompaniment. Good stuff and well recorded to boot - no sign of the dreaded "Loudness Wars" here.Living Rm: Transporter-SimAudio pre/power amps-Vandersteen 3A Sign. & sub

A Tale of God's Will
Is that the young horn player from New orleans? Not sure if you need Christmas music but there was an Mp3 Download from a TV show "Studio 54" of him doing "O Holy Night" with some other brass guys, which was great too.If you are interested in other music that is jazz but sounds like something else entirely try "Miles Ahead" = mid period Miles Davis w/ Gil Evans.
