Well I finally gone done and bought one !

    First impressions - incredible.

The bass (my main concern) is amazing for such a tiny box. How did they do it - some sort of clever processing wizardry to fool the ears into thinking there's more bass than the actually is !?

However it might be helped by the fact that it is sitting on a nice boomy fitted bedside cabinet & backed up against a built in (pretty empty) cupboard !!

One small thing I noticed. I have immediately set the Boom with multiple alarms, with different sounds. Some of the sound sources are LastFM artist stations ("Play similar artist" to artist X).

However when I try to choose one of these in the Boom display, all of them just scroll "Play similar artist", without specifying the actual artist. This makes it difficult to know which one I want !

Is this likely to be a Boom / Squeezenetwork or a LastFM issue ?

It's an SN issue, in order to reduce the size of the text item I didn't include everything such as "Play similar artist to xxx". This is usually redundant information when you are browsing the normal menu, but if you save it as a favorite like you did, it will get confusing. Not sure what the right solution is.

Yes, speaker placement definitely matters. But that doesn't mean there isn't any clever processing wizardry as well! See the Boom white paper at: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/uploads/...dio_Design.pdf

    I don't quite understand ..

Why would it be a big problem to have it scrolling "Play similar artist to xxx" ?

PS I was a bit confused about sub-bass.

Can the Boom produce these frequencies without a subwoofer (ie. 20-30Hz) or is it limited to 100Hz ?

    thanks again

As I understand from my reading of this document, the signal processing compensates for the _natural_ -3db point of 100HZ, and dynamically produces a flat response (no attenuation of the signal for lower frequencies) down to 20Hz, based on listening levels.....as the volume goes up, so does the cutoff, but perceived levels of bass at higher volumes can be higher, so audibly this may not be apparent.
Correct me if I'm wrong here...
