Squeezeslave, 24/96 and SPDIF output options?

So I've finally gotten around to trying out Squeezeslave and It seems to work great on my Vista machine.

I've been testing the optical output on my Gigabyte Motherboard which I believe is using a Realtek ALC889A. In Vista's sound control panel, I've configured the sample rates the Grace is capable of receiving (44.1/48/88.2/96) but it seems as though I have to explicitly set it to one of the settings in order to see any change.

Example -> With the audio driver explicitly set to 16/44.1, playing back a 24/96k via Foobar results in a 44.1 signal being sent to the grace (the grace's front panel indicates the sample rate its getting). As expected then, setting the audio driver to 24/96 results in a a 96k signal being sent, which I assume means that regular 16/44.1 audio is being upsampled.

Now switching to Squeezeslave, everything seems fine, except for the fact that I cannot seem to get 24/44.1, 24/88.2 or 24/96 test files to play. Squeezecenter doesn't even attempt to start playing the track.

    So my questions are:

    1. Is Squeezeslave capable of playing back FLAC files at anything other than 16/44.1? If so, is it likely a problem with the onboard audio driver that is causing the issue?

    2. Is it possible to have the Realtek driver simply spit out audio in the same sample rate as the source file? If not, is setting the driver to 24/96 full time a good idea?

    2. Should I investigate installing a 3rd party card with spdif out (M-audio etc?) rather than using the Realtek onboard output?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Unfortunately, squeezeslave currently only supports 44.1 playback. Removing this limitation is currently being investigated.

Any news on removing this limitation? Is 24/96 a possibility with squeezeslave?

    Unfortunately not.

Other than tracking the latest portaudio development sources and testing the wasapi version, I've done little with squeezeslave over the summer. Thankfully, I've been doing that as I've uncovered several bugs in portaudio which were quickly fixed.

The original sources for squeezeslave were hard coded to support 16/44.1 everywhere so it's a major update to the code and I currently have no need to support higher sample rates. I'm planning to track down the buffering code issue which looks more like a race condition. Once that's fixed I'll release 1.0.

There have been nearly 13,000 downloads of 0.9-133 and only a handful of users have asked for higher sample rate support. I think it's best to let everyone vote on the next feature(s) as squeezeslave does everything that I need it to do currently.

If you'd like to start work on higher sample rate support, I'd be happy to walk through the code with you to help get you started.

    24/96

I'm also interrested in this feature as there is more and more hi res files availlable.

I'm also interrested in Inguz audio (EQ) for squeezeslave and didn't find yet out to acces EQ settings.

    96/24 files on Squeezeslave

As it appears there is a recurrence of intererest in this topic I'd like to say that I too would love to see this feature implemented. I think the demand is going to get greater as more 96/24 titles become available.

I would LOVE for squeezeslave to be compatible with multiple sample rates (including 96khz). I finally got my custom-convert.config setup to resample for squeezeslave so my couple of 48khz tracks don't sound SLOOOWWWW, but I'd prefer not to have my server have to transcode for squeezeslave.
