I already have a Squeezebox Controller to control my squeezecenter/squeezeplayer box, and decided to buy myself a Boom for the bedroom. However, I cannot get it to connect to my wireless network.
I have a 64bit hex WEP key (don't worry security freaks, I live in middle of nowhere!) so nothing overly complicated.
My SB Controller connects fine. I've tried changing the WEP key, removing WEP (SB Boom still asks for WEP key though??) and doing a factory reset.
In all situations the SB Controller connects without a hitch and the Boom times out every time. Works fine with a cable though.
Is this a returns job, or have I done something particularly daft?

The only thing I can suggest is to verify the correct WEP key and make certain there are no *spaces* in the key, including at the very end of your WEP key. The Boom's arrow on the screen (indicating you are done imputing the key and you are ready to arrow right to the next step) should appear as the very next digit to the right of your WEP key with no *space*.

Can you say exactly what the error is you are seeing?

The WEP key is definitely correct. I even tried changing it and then entering the new details on the SB Controller and the Boom. THE 64bit key is 10 characters long so there's no opportunity for it to enter a space on the end.
The Boom simply gets to 'Connecting to [Blah SSID]' with a countdown timer that always reaches zero without connecting. The SB Controller always connects ok within this time.

Well, a space can be inadvertently entered anywhere, regardless of the number of characters.
Are you seeing the arrow right next to your WEP key actual characters? Or are you seeing only the hidden "*********" key?
Maybe try no WEP again. The Boom is associating your SSID as needing a WEP, is there no option to hit the down arrow for NONE as an option?
I've never attached my Boom to an unsecured network, so I don't know what the options will be.

I had the same problem with my boom and a 128 bit wep OPEN key I used until recent. Shifted on 128 bit SHARED key and everything worked fine. Now I am on WPA2 and everithing's ok as well.
I think it's some of a incompatibility of the specific wireless router/access point. In fact, the d-link I actual use gave analogous problem with another wireless media player (a Netgear) I used before, while with my previous US Robotic wireless router the connection was more reliable.

Funny you mentioned that you have a D-Link.
I found the problem is an incompatibility with my router. I tried a Linksys box (thankfully I have a number of this type of thing lying around at work) and it works fine.
Odd that the Controller works with the D-Link (it's a DSL-604T) but not the Boom. I thought I read elsewhere that they have the same wireless chipset.
Might try changing the connection type on the D-Link at some point. I now have two wifi networks in my house - one dedicated for music streaming, which i something I may not change.

Thanks, but I'm thinking that it's my router rather than the Boom.
The Boom connects fine to a Linksys router using whatever encryption I care to throw at it.
With the D-Link it does not connect using WEP on the default 'open' key setting. I haven't tried the the 'shared' setting suggested above as I've left the linksys in place on my network to solely stream music.
The firmware on the D-Link is a little cranky - WPA just doesn't seem to work with anything and they've not updated it since 2005!
Odd that the Controller was happy to talk to it though.
