At the moment I have all my music stored on my PC, but I'm looking to move it to a NAS, that's also going to be running SqueezeCenter.
So the question is quite simple, really: What's the best choice?
The ReadyNAS has a direct download from the nice folks at Logitech, but the QNAP also has some kind of corporate back up, via the SSOTS, so both should be able to run the software, -and community support seems to be good for both products.
Are there any performance differences that I should be aware of, or maybe even a third product that I should be looking at instead?
Thank you for your time :-)

Best Choice: ReadyNAS Duo or QNAP TS-209 II?

I would say the best option is VortexBox. Just load it on an old PC. This is much cheaper than buying a NAS and has more features and power. I find that dedicated NAS boxes have very slow processors in them and are very limited. Even an old P4 is 10 times faster than a dedicated NAS machine. With VortexBox loaded it's more powerful.
Plus it will auto rip a CD for you. A NAS can't do that.rip, tag, get cover art… All you do is insert the CD!

ReadyNAS Duo is a treat. Quiet, hot-swap, runs my Boom very well. A nice device overall.

@agillis
Power consumtion heating and noise is much lower on a NAS - if used as a "jukebox" and as a file serving unit, the handling and cost are much ,more efficient.

I am also evaluating currently. My coice will either be a ReadyNas or a Synology Diskstation. I already own an old Synology product which has not enough power to run the Squeececenter SW, but I am very satisfied with the product quality. Especially the SW package is the most complete with Synology, as you can read in many tests. My only concern with Synology is the availability of Squeezecenter SW from Logitech. There is one version from Synology available, but always behind the original Logitech release schedule. Another joice is SSODS which is ported by flipflip, who is providing the SW (just search on the web). The advantage of ReadyNAS is the availability of Squeecezenter from Logitech directly, so there is some guarantee of future development, support and timeliness of new releases.
I haven't decided yet, which product I will buy. But anyway, it will be a NAS over a full-blown PC - the NAS helps also protecting our environment, which is avery important factor to me. And the cost of a NAS is not too much, if you calculate the energy savings (20Watts of a NAS compared to >200Wattsof a PC, running 7x24).

I would vote for QNAP, because I use QNAP TS-109 and it's fine for my Squeezebox Duo.
