Hello,
I am considering getting a Squeezebox and running Squeezecenter on my Synology DS-207 (not 207+), where my mp3/flac library resides.
Before committing to buying, I would like to hear users' impressions on the performance with the DS-207, specifically how responsive is the system with various sizes of libraries? Any other impressions/observations are welcome.
Btw, I am planning on using the system via the Squeezebox console as well as from the PC (JR Media Jukebox+MC2Slim plugin or perhaps Moose frontend).
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Hi!
I am not the most experienced user here but I have a DS-207. Performance through the webinterface is painfully slow. But... I just got a Duet Remote and receiver and suddenly the system i working fine with regards to speed. Only issue I have is disk spin-down.
Personally I will most probably switch to using my Asus EEE-box with a usb drive during the hollidays since I can not get the disks to spin down properly.

Almost back where I started.

Hello,
I am also looking around to get a NAS device, but i read somewhere on the net that the 207 wasn't quite good enough, but when you say it's all right, that would save me around 150 dollars.
But this spin down thing, is that a problem that affect only the 207? all the synoly NAS systems, or even most of the NAS systems??
Anybody with something to say about this?
Thanx in advance

DS 207 128 K is fine for running SqueezeCenter
Hello everybody !
For 3 month I have a SB Boom with SqueezeCenter on a DS 2007 with 128 K of memory and the pair is working seamlessly.
The only annoyance is that Synology is pretty slow to release
the latest version of SqueezeCenter as a supported package.
Typically one has to wait two to three months after the Slim Device releases !
Cheers

clarification
Hello again!
Even though I said it works ok... Knowing what I know today I would not go for the Diskstation for my music collection. I would instead go for a low power (atom or less) system with a single disk in it = faster, more flexible, and a lot of more reasons I can not remember know. Maybe you still need a NAS but maybe not necessarily for running Squeezecenter. And as so many people wisely have said before: raid is not back-up.
/s
ps As soon as I have a free day I will migrate to an Asus EEEbox that I bought for this. dsAsus EEE BOX B202, Ubuntu 10.04 (headless)

Thanks to everyone for their feedback - sorry to be such a bad thread 'owner' and not reporting back.
@soulboy: you say that the performance via web interface was slow... was this the case with the Duet? I am a bit unclear as to what made the system more responsive. Also, is your DS-207 a 64 or 128 MB RAM version?
Unfortunately I have the 64MB version of DS207 - anybody else with this model, could you comment on performance when using the remote?
Thanks again to all who responded.

Hi,
with web interface I mean from a browser. That is painfully slow. But browsing using the Duet remote works fine. There is a bit of lag when entering a menu say, artists, but once that menu is loaded browsing is fine. I guess it is the amount of data that has to be transferred using a web browser that slows it down.
And I have the DS-207 which, correct me if I am wrong, has 64 MB where as the 207+ has 128 MB.
(Once again, I think it is too slow and disk spin down doesn't work for me either, so as soon as I have some time I am moving to a low power atom server instead. And leaving the Nas as a pure NAS).Asus EEE BOX B202, Ubuntu 10.04 (headless)
