This month marks my 1 year anniversary with my SB3. I purchased it last year at the open house. I bought a Duet at this year's event. I'm not sure I can wait another year to buy another duet for upstairs.
I was using Gnump3d and XMMS patched into the stereo before I learned of the Slimserver products. Except for the mornings I seldom listen to radio stations anymore. The money I've spent on CD's is truly worth it now.
I'm not an audiophile like many here. I just wanted to make the music I have accumulated over the years to be easier to use. These products have provided that convenience. Now that I have a controller to go along with the SB3 I don't know how I got along without it.
I'm the type that likes variety when I listen. I don't usually put on an album and listen beginning to end. Maybe Dark Side of the Moon or Waiting for Columbus but not too often.
The random setting and the shuffle features are what I use most. My problem is that they aren't random or shuffled enough. During Christmas I queued up my "xmas" genre on random. My SC has a thing for Harry Connick Jr. I was amazed by how often it would play these tracks. I find this happens with other albums also while listening. It seems to get an album in it's logic and plays tracks from it far more often than others. I like the surprise of what pops up when your least expecting it.
I don't have much patience to create elaborate playlists. When I do, I tend to add albums, delete the few tracks I don't want, and add a few individual tracks. The shuffle doesn't shuffle too well. The number of tracks from the same album that get bunched together is frustrating.
I remember when the 5 disk cd players came out with the "spiral" setting. This was nice in that the songs from various albums were equally spaced.
What are other peoples thoughts on this matter. I would like to see more options for trying to mix up the playback of the music.
PS: Is it possible to move songs in the playlist using the hand held controller? When I see "bunching" in the playlist sometimes I'd like to move rather than delete an entry.
Thanks,
