I'm experimenting with Squeezecenter to make sure it will do what I want before I actually buy a duet, so I'm a bit of a novice here.
I've managed, with some difficulty, to connect a softsqueeze player over the internet. It would have been much easier if I had come here first and discovered that I needed to open ports other than 9000!! Anyway, I can now stream mp3s to anyone who cares to connect to my computer.
So, how do I set a username/password on the SC? I know it is possible but for the life of me I can't see where to set it. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious so please point me in the right direction.

Thank you.
Even after your explicit directions I stared at the squeezecenter screen for many minutes before I found the settings button - I was expecting a menu item at the top or an option in the list down the side.
Then it took me a while to realise that the security item was found on a pulldown under the label "favourites".
The interface takes a little getting used to.

For streaming via the Internet, would you really have to open ports other than 9000? I mean, if not using SoftSqueeze or SqueezePlay but, say, Winamp as a receiver?
Wouldn’t it be enough to point a browser at
http://www.yourmachine.com:9000/
and a compatible player at
http://www.yourmachine.com:9000/stream.mp3
?
Re password:
Is there just one password? And would that be used for both the Web UI and the actual stream?Last edited by Moonbase; 2008-12-03 at 11:35.

Yes, if you play stream.mp3 using winamp or another player, you only have to forward port 9000. 3483 is the control port.
And yes, the password is used for both the mp3 stream and web interface.Rich

Thanks for the info!
Good to know … I wouldn’t want my system announcing »here is a SqueezeCenter« all over the net …Last edited by Moonbase; 2008-12-03 at 12:01.

Hey I have a question about this as well. I'm not really interested in remote streaming but, more of a remote control aspect. Anyways what I'm hoping squeezecenter will allow me to do is something similar to a directive in Apache. I would like the squeezecenter to allow anyone coming from my in house network to be able to control and play music without a login. However if someone is coming from a network that is other than my house network I want them to authenticate themselves via a username password similar to Apache .htaccess setup. Thanks for any info.
P.S. If it doesn't do this then I'll just reverse proxy through my Apache server
