I have a real problem with my Squeezecenter installation on FreeNAS.
I originally had the setup working as per Michael Herger's instructions, all went fine until I loaded the AlienBBC plugins. I could access all my music files but not any BBC feeds.
As I had loaded Real Player on my Windows PC I could access the streams, but none would play through the Squeezebox.
After much changing of settings I decided to remove all the files from the slimnas directory and any sub-directories below. All went OK until I got to one set of sub-directories that I can't delete. This is DBI directory under slimnas\usr\lib\perl5\site-perl\5.8.8\auto\. So I renamed the slimnas directory and created a new directory for the clean install.
After a couple of attempts at getting this setup to work with AlienBBC I have come to a grinding halt. bpa has looked at my log files from a thread in the plugins forum and stated that there is something seriously wrong with the slimnas\squeezecenter setup. In particular the message saying I have multiple squeezecenter instances running, an other ones talking of Fatal errors. I dont know how this can ocurr as I have only done one install each time after cleaning out the slimnas folders.
Could those remnant directories have anything to do with this situation, and does anyone know how to remove them ?
I have the following setup :-
FreeNAS 0.686.4 (3374). (one small disk for FreeNAS, one large one for Data)
SlimNAS 1.1.2
Squeezecenter 7.2.1-23502-noCPAN (but have also tried 7.2-noCPAN 22900)
My log files are attached for anyone that can interpret the contents.
bpa has suggested Michael Herger may be the best person to advise. Can anyone help ???

If you are running FreeNAS' UPnP service, shut it down and try again. I
think it was using the same port as SC tries to use.

Michael, can you confirm that a "FATAL" error should stop SC.
In the log files attached there are 3 FATAL errors yet Slimnas continues running which seems to be wrong.

Definitely. Looking at the code which is throwing those messages, it must stop.
I could only imagine the first fatal was thrown by SC, the second by the scanner or something.

Does it really continue?

User said that SB works after "port in use" error and no restart was done.
My understanding is that user is running slimnas 1.12 - it was upgraded 7.2.0 and 7.2.1. Not sure what is running now.
Are there issues about a user upgrade of SlimNas to SC 7.2.x (e.g. OSDetect) ?
Does Slimnas restart by itself after a Fatal error ?

No. The changes are in 7.3 only.

No intelligence built into SlimNAS. If it crashes, it crashes. I'd suggest he gets rid of SlimNAS (all of it) and tries again.

Response from wezzer
Hi all - Thanks for taking the time to look into this for me.
In answer to your questions :-
* I Checked FreeNAS UPnP service - It was not enabled.
* Current Slimnas is v1.1.2, Squeezecenter 7.2.1-23502-noCPAN.
* Versions kept the same at last three rebuilds.
* Squeezecenter carries on running after the error is reported.
* Squeezebox continues to access music files OK after the error.
* Original installation was slightly earlier version of Slimnas and Sqeezecenter (no records kept but was on M.Herger webpage about 4 weeks ago).
* Each time I reloaded I totally stripped out the \slimnas folder and all sub-directories below.
* Each stripout & re-load encountered the DBI folder problem (described before)
* Squeezebox still playing music files OK.*
I have noticed the DNS v4 Server address was left blank, have tonight changed this to the router address. That seens to have significantly reduced the number of errors on the log file back to 1 error.
I the opened the squeezecenter service on the PC by clicking on the hyperlink showing the port address at the slimserver page on FreeNAS - I then had had this service open whilst running the squeezebox, and noticed a number of errors came from this. The new logfile is attached.
Regards

Resolved !
I think this problem is now sorted.
It appears that entering a DNS Server address I had omitted from the FreeNAS setup has suddenly resolved this issue.
I cannot explain why, but since re-starting the errors have stopped and the system is playing music files (except iTunes).
I even have AlienBBC feeds working on the squeezebox for the first time ever.
It was such a simple omission that caused all the hassle.
Thanks to all who offered help.

Thanks for the feedback! Your mail was still on my todo list. Glad I pushed it off far enough ;-).
