I love the boom ... but ....

I love everything about the Boom - almost. It joins 1 x SB2, 3 x SB3 and a duet in my system and I mainly use it for outdoors.

My one gripe is that the power adaptor is too big to fit into the US outdoor sockets - it fouls the doors. I therefore always have to use an extension lead.

Does anyone else have the problem and are there any workarounds?

Sorry, I have no solution for your problem, other than using an extension cord.

My wish for the Boom would be a build in terrestrial radio receiver. I know many stations stream radio, but where I live (west coast of Australia), many of our radio transmission are delayed rebroadcasts from the east coast. Only the original broadcast is streamed. I prefer to listen to breakfast radio at breakfast time, not 4am. Just add a radio and do something about the adaptor and it would be the perfect portable device!

I've found a workaround for most of my outdoor socket issues. Use the top socket and plug the adapter in upside down. This works for most of the places that I want to plug the boom in outdoors around my house anyway. At least the guys that built my house didn't align things up perfectly so this works - there is just enough extra room this way. You're probably out of luck if you had guys being a bit more perfectionist with yours unless you can loosen and adjust the socket/cover alignment somehow.

You'll see a lot of threads around here about discussions of the advantages of the "brick in the middle" vs. the "wall wart" styles of plugs.

You can buy the new style cover plates and only use the bottom outlet. But since you have to carry the Boom and its PS anywhere you go anyway, why not buy the short 18 inch orange three headed extension lead from Home Depot? It solves your problem, is not a bulky 50 foot drop cord, is easy to carry with the Boom and PS, and will probably come in handy for other uses around the house.

There's some great suggestions there at least one of which I'll use.

My outdoor sockets have individual side hinged covers so I can't plug into them but either the short extension lead or, even better, the IEC adaptor that Dean suggested, will work fantastically.
