Hmm ... you could be onto something.
If I don't have the VPN running then iPlayer won't play 3 HD.
I assumed that BBC Radio follows the same route - but maybe not?
With VPN I get 3 HD on iPlayer but not BBC Radio.
It's late here - tomorrow I'll switch to the linux sbs server (with and without VPN) and report the outcome.
I'm pretty sure it worked without issues in 7.5.5 - but the last few days have been so chaotic, I could be mistaken ...!!!???

I've tried BBC Radio now on two different server (Win & Linux) - 3 HD doesn't connect on either. iPlayer 3 HD connects and plays.
So, it seems the two work differently in accessing the streams?
-----------------------
As a side issue: I switched from the local server to mysqueezebox.com - this removed BBC Radio from the menu.
On switching back to the local server, BBC Radio was also missing. When I did a cold reboot, it re-appeared in the menu.
A side effect of all this switching was that all the presets were also lost.
-----------------------
I'm raising this because I recall that 3HD in BBC Radio worked in 7.5.5 via VPN.
I accept that there are so many confounding variables, it's well-nigh impossible to track anything down.
Now I'm on 7.6 I don't relish resetting everything back to 7.5 to check back.
--------------------------
I guess the moral of the story is don't start delving into the inner workings!
--------------------------
Thanks for the advice and patience!

To test your VPN access with a different service can you play "UK only" podcast from the BBC such as "Composer of the week". I think a live radio test of UK only would be to listen to a sports program on 5Live / 5 Live Extra such as Grand Prix or Cricket - try the WMA stream direct and then proxied through server PC (Web UI Settings/ Player/Audio/MP3 Streaming Method)
All the BBC podcast can be accessed using the Podcast App and creating a Podcast entry for "http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/opml/bbc_podcast_opml.xml" on your mysb.com podcast account.Last edited by bpa; 2011-07-31 at 00:32.

Okay - I added that url to podcasts.
It shows up as BBC Station List. I open that and choose a station - gett a list of podcast. None of which play - just get a description page of details.
How's it supposed to work?
the existing Podcast Alley entries just return 404 Not Found
