    Strange message on the Boom...

    For some strange reason, I've noticed every weekend since I've owned the Boom (3 weeks or so) it displays a message indicating that the "SqueezeCenter requires updating" and then prompts me to push the dial. The display then goes back to the clock. Now, I know that I am running the latest version of SqueezeCenter (v 7.2.0) so I don't know what the problem is.

    Any thoughts?

    As you've probably guessed, this is the message Boom displays when it connects to a server that is of a version less than 7.2. Is there any chance that you have an older version of SqueezeCenter (or even SlimServer) running somewhere on your network? One thing I've noticed about Boom is that if there are multiple SqueezeCenter servers running on the local network, it's not very good at sticking to the server that it was previously connected to.

    This is a message that is intended to be shown when Boom connects to
    an older (pre-7.2) SqueezeCenter. It's displayed when the the Boom
    tries to connect and is immediately disconnected three times in a row,
    which is the behavior some old versions of SC have.

    I _thought_ that this was extremely unlikely to happen even with a
    very bad network setup, but it sounds like you have an arrangement
    that's triggering. Can you describe your network and server
    configuration so we can try to reproduce and fix this?

    I was/am a Squeezebox Classic owner prior to purchasing the Boom. I upgraded to the latest and greatest version of SqueezeCenter prior to the Boom arriving a few weeks ago (v7.2.0). I downloaded it directly from the Slimdevices.com download site. I run Squeezecenter directly off my iMac. There is only 1 instance of this service that appears in system settings. I have a Linksys wrt54G as a wireless router.

    As for additional information you may need to pinpoint the issue, I am happy to provide it but just need some direction as to what you require. Thanks for the prompt responses thus far!

    Any ideas what's different on the weekends? Do you also use the Boom during the week? Does the message come up when you power up the Boom (or the iMac), or does it just appear out of the blue?

    I honestly don't know why this appears on the weekend (specifically on Sunday) only. I use the Boom everyday since I fall asleep to music each night and use the sleep function. My alarm is set to repeat Mon - Fri at the same time each day.

    The message just "appears" out of the blue. I'll walk into my bedroom and the message will be on the screen. It prompts me to click the dial or arrow back. Once I do so, it seems just "fine" but clearly a bit disconcerting.

    Separately, I have noticed some odd behavior from time to time such as the alarm not shutting off after snoozing. The first week of use my Boom "crashed" and I overslept for work. The device was just stuck on the Squeezebox splash screen. These may be related symptoms to the same issue I am having with the SqueezeCenter service.

    I have seen this message once. It had that on the display and then tried rebooting by itself and repeat about 6 times. It connected by itself, and then a minute later it did this dance again. All without me touching it.

    After removing my Squeezecenter prefs file, reinstalling, hard resetting my Netgear DG834G router and setting everything relevant up again from scratch I haven't seen that message again.

    Could be dodgy wireless? Find a utility to check and make sure you are on a different WiFi channel from your neighbours.
