Hi Pippin - quick question - I showed iPengHD on my iPads to a friend a couple of weeks ago when he visited for a listening session (he uses Squeeze Commander, etc, on an Android Phone for his own set-up) and he was very impressed by iPengHD's layout and operation, but isn't a fan of Apple hardware... have you given any thought to porting iPengHD onto the Android Platform for use on Samsung Galaxy Tablets and such like? Just thought I'd ask...TIA.

Thoughs: yes. But I won't do it.
There are plenty of Apps on Android. Android is a completely different animal for development in every respect so it will be a completely new development - especially UI wise. And I don't even find enough time to make enough progress with the other exciting things I try to get done so for myself: I'll stick to iOS.
I had tried to work with flattermann on his tablet version of SqueezeCommander but it looks like (this is a guess, I don't know) he currently doesn't find a lot of time to finish that. I know he's got a family and a daytime job to do and I also know that sales on Android don't justify to sacrifice a daytime job so he probably has to spend whatever time is left in the evening. When he originally developed SqueezeCommander he didn't have children.
It's a general problem with Android: If you want to develop Apps for this platform, you either have to do it completely out of passion - something you have to be able to afford. The Squeezebox ecosystem - cool as it is - is quite heavy on support, there's a lot of things you have to explain users, usually around setup and Logitech isn't really of help here. Android is much worse than iOS here due to all the different platforms and OS versions.
Or you have to do it in a completely commercial setup, where the App is just something that gets developed for a company that wants to provide it for other means or has a secondary business interest and can pay you to do it.
Android doesn't have an "App economy" that allows a developer to justify sacrificing other jobs to do an App or even live off App sales.---

Hi pippin,
Quick question about "My Add To Menu" when sorting my playlists, I have in the add to menu 2 entries that I not sure of "Bad Music" & "Bad Tags", what are they for & I have an entry for an old playlist that I have deleted, how do I delete it from the add to menu & can I delete the other 2 "Bad" ones as well...

I believe they're from the PlaylistManager plugin. I believe the idea is to track tracks where you need to repair the tags or which just suck.

iPeng seems to be stopping the server
I'm running server version 7.6.1 on Windows XP. I'm finding that using iPeng seems to stop the server. I think it is when I go in to Music Folder on the iPeng to browse folders on the server that it does it. Is this a know problem? I'm using iPeng v1.5.3.

How many files are in your root music folder?
You might have some problem with certain files in the music folder.
What happens when you browse by Music Folder is that the server tries to re-scan that folder. If it's being held up or slowed down while this happens it can either delay the response a lot (so that you might not even get a result on first try) or even crash the server.
This is not iPeng related, though, it's generally how "Browse Music Folder" woks in Squeezebox Server, I would expect the same behavior if you browse there directly from the Squeezbox or the web interface.
You could have a look at the server.log or scanner.log to get any clue about which file is affected. You can find the log file locations in the server's web interface under "Settings->Information".
7.6.1 is a bit sensitive regarding control characters (< ASCII 32) in tags or filenames (control characters are NOT "foreign" characters, these should work fine).
There's also an option in iPeng's settings "Native Music Folders". If you disable this, iPeng behaves exactly like a Squeezebox Touch or Radio when browsing by Music Folder. It's been added to work around another issue with WinXP, but that was regarding playback, I'm not sure it will help here and you lose a few capabilities, e.g. artwork being shown in the menu.Last edited by pippin; 2012-08-11 at 19:19.

There are 298 subfolders in my library folder and two files in the root.
I recently tidied up my tags by removing all v1 tags and leaving only v2.3 tags, using MP3Tag
I should have thought of trying using the Squeezebox remote to browse the folders. Today I did it with no problem, and iPeng did it also with no problem. I also find that scanning my music causes the server to stop, despite having tidied my tags
Today I looked in my logs. There is nothing in my scanner logs since June. In the server log I see that I restarted the server twice yesterday evening, and just before each occasion there was an Interpreter Failed warning referring to GDResizer.
Thank you again for your response. I'll look again in the logs if the problem recurs.
