Hi. After updating iPeng to the latest version on my ipad, I have the so-called "volume bug". In my case it DECREASES the volume by 5 points every time I simply open iPeng (more and more every time I activate iPeng). Tried this with different settings of ipad slider volume (both in the main screen and within iPeng). Also losing sync with Squeezeserver is more frequent with the latest version. No problems happened before. Please fix this. (and yes, I tried flushing the cache many times, also restarting Squeezeserver and iPeng. Squeezeserver 7.5.3 running absolutely bugfree for many months and no wish to update).

On the audio bug: please see above. I'v written the answer at least 5 times in this thread now.
On the "losing sync with the server": What exactly do you mean: Does the server no longer respond? If that's the problem, then the next update will likely fix it.
If it's something else, please be more specific in the description of the issues you are seeing, I'm not aware of any other bugs re syncing with the server.---

I thought this was your recommendation:
Did not help in my case. I want back a dozen pages on this thread and could not see any other tips on the volume bug. Do I have to go WAY back? Searching the thread for "audio bug" or "volume bug" did not bring better results either. If I am overlooking something, would you be so kind to provide a link to the appropriate answer? Or if this a frequent problem with other users, and you are bugged by us to answer it every time, maybe it deserves a FAQ entry? (I could not find one)
By losing sync, I meant things like failing to browse my music directory or displaying old "now playing" info while something else is playing (started by Duet Controller). This is usually cured by force quitting iPeng.
All in all, I was mostly happy with the reliability of the previous release of iPeng, and wish I have not updated it. Unfortunately, I don't know a way to revert with iPad apps.

OK. Sorry. Wasn't aware that there are cases where the workaround doesn't help.
Do you use playback in iPeng?
Anyway. I've got a bug fix, will be in the next update.
OK, that's what I meant with "losing connection".By losing sync, I meant things like failing to browse my music directory or displaying old "now playing" info while something else is playing (started by Duet Controller). This is usually cured by force quitting iPeng.
I thought you might have a problem with the library getting out of sync with the library on the server (although iPeng still works), in this case
Will also be fixed in the next update (hopefully. It's a difficult one but my beta testers report that the latest try on fixing it might have helped, they are no longer seeing it).
I don't think you'll find the older iPeng versions to be more reliable here. From what I can see it's a change in Squeezebox Server that started to provoke this and the change happened in SBS 7.5.4.All in all, I was mostly happy with the reliability of the previous release of iPeng, and wish I have not updated it. Unfortunately, I don't know a way to revert with iPad apps.
It has to do what the server recommends as a reconnect rule under certain circumstances and obviously got changed to "wait for 60s" (and some got interpreted by iPeng that way) which is what iPeng now does. You will see (if you are patient enough, which probably nobody is) that it DOES successfully reconnect after this time.
Previous versions of the server always recommended 5 or 10s which was less notable.---

No, I don't use iPeng playback. After experimenting, I see that sometimes when I exit iPeng it triggers a "volume overlay" picture with my general iPad volume setting, and then no volume bug occurs when I open iPeng again. Then, after a while, exiting iPeng does not show the overlay. Then the problem starts anew. Maybe after some more experimentation I will find some correlation here, but mostly I just hope this is fixed in the next release.
In relation to this, a BIG wish to have the numerical volume display when adjusting volume by the physical iPad knobs - I am a classical music listener, and the volume change may not be that obvious until the next loud passage. But I usually know what is the good numerical volume setting for the given album. And speaking of this, the 5 point volume adjustment step is too big for me. I prefer the 2 point step in Squeezebox web interface.
Re: losing connection - I use Squeezeserver 7.5.3 . But just for interest, I will try waiting 60s next time this happens.

Good point about the display. Could you file a ticket?

Little chance on the volume stepping, though, unless I make this configurable one day. I've tested this wither beta testers and 5 steps was what most people (by far) were happy with.
Hm. There are two other cases in which this can happen in iPeng (also fixed in the next release) but I thought they were rare.Re: losing connection - I use Squeezeserver 7.5.3 . But just for interest, I will try waiting 60s next time this happens.
I'm not 100% sure, though, about the version when the change first came up. It has to do with the introduction of a technique called "long polling" which was introduced for Logitech's own iOS/Android App and that App requires 7.5.4 so I assumed that this would be the version...---

Yikes! I see that I have volume bar in ALL other iPad applications controlling my Squeezebox volume! Has this been reported before?
(In the meantime, I filed the volume display ticket, hope did everything right)Last edited by pryamomimo; 2011-09-08 at 10:28.

That's a side effect of the bug and only happens whenever iPeng is still running in the background, which in this version is sometimes does for up to 10 minutes. Which is also part of the same bug.
It's all one thing permeating through a few levels of trouble.... And all of this only to fix a minor issue for some people. Makes you learn about the importance of regression testing.
That's, btw, an explanation for the different effects you are seeing with the HUD (the overlay for the system volume change). When that overlay shows up you know iPeng has shut down and then the volume slider will no longer have an effect. Directly, that is.---

Ok, I see. Well, good thing you know what causes this. Looking forward to the next bugfixing release. Thanks for prompt responses!

Pippin,
In one of the recent updates, I thought I remembered reading that you could copy now playing info to the pasteboard. Did I imagine that? If not, how do you do it? I have been copying it from "Share to email" and then tossing the email, but wondered if there was a quicker way.Sue
