Hi Pippin - Thanks - I'm guessing you are referring to my timing issue comment right? I'll clear the library & rescan tonight and see if that resolves it...

    Cheers.

No, I'm referring to the "duplicate entries" issue.
Actually I did not fully understand the timing issue

I'm not seeing any timing issues with my setup (similar eqpt but I don't use vb player). Are you using vb player in vb itself or SB players. Recall some posts on similar issue at vb forums but seemed to be related to the vb player not SB or ipeng. Might have been your posts I saw.

Hi Pippin & GaryM - Don't think I've posted there yet about that issue - doing some trials today then will as needed once i have more details...

Basically the time track in the media window (whether in iPeng or in the LMS CP) jumps around. e.g. you start a new song that is 3:50 in length and the played time on the left starts at 0:40 instead of 0:00, it gets to say 1:21 then suddenly jumps to 1:59 or something, 10 seconds later it jumps back to 0:48 or such, and ongoing it jumps around suddenly going up 5 or 10 seconds, then occasionally jumping back 30 seconds or more, ll the time it's not tracking consistently in real time when it's not 'jumping' (i.e. it's running faster than actual), then it gets to 3:50 and the song hasn't finished so it ends up showing 4:17 or something as played time... (Note: all those times are just general examples, not actual example).

I'm running VP into my system (see signature below) but this error happens on both iPeng and the LMS CP in web browser - so I originally thought it was iPeng/VP sync issue - but looks like it's specifically VB & VP issue on the box, and/or LMS on Linux... I am about to do test today with SB Touch to see if it does it directly on that, and in iPeng managing it (if not in either case then I think it's clearly some sort of VP player issue on the VB box itself)...

The player probably reports a wrong timestamp.

The usual progress in iPeng is not being sent from the server, iPeng just counts seconds and just re-syncs itself whenever there's a change or otherwise periodically. That's why you only see the "jumping" at certain times.

I believe the web interface acts the same way.

Thanks Pippin - that's interesting as I actually have another minor problem with the server where it keeps getting the actual time out of sync - I'm in NZ so at +12 GMT, but sometimes the VB Server's suddenly changed the actual date & time so it's effectively at about +15 or +18 GMT so I wonder if it's related to that then (the server's not reporting a consistent time in sync with the players/clients)? Appreciate your thoughts/response - I shall investigate further anyway - I'm trying to see how I can monitor for that change and or whether to force some sort of regular time sync for the server...

(I love iPeng BTW - have the HD version on 2 iPads and the standard on my iPhone - been using it for 18 months now. An audiophile friend came over yesterday and he and his wife were playing with it too - they use the android squeeze commander(?) or such app on phone and the LMS CP on a laptop; and thought iPeng was considerably better/more functional and more user friendly, etc, than those.)

    Thanks

I don't think the clock issue is related.
Actually I would have expected the server to set the clock for the players so I'm a bit surprised they are out of sync.

The playback thing is one of the player sending feedback about the elapsed time and samples played back to the server on a continuous basis.
I can imagine what's going wrong there it's not so easy to keep these things in sync when using a large input buffer.

Thanks Pippin - any thoughts? I'll keep investigating as I have time, I used to work in I.T. so should be able to eventually figure it out... Just a bit annoying when you can't identify source, so can't 'do anything' about it...

Thinking about duplicate entries is this really a new thing , " new and changed " has always worked ok for new but not for changed. ( new and some changes is a more apt description ).
Sometimes due to bugs sometimes for natural reasons like if timestamp or file size does not change how to determine if a change occurred ( I think that is possible in Linux with the rigth disc formats.... ).

Definetely seen duplicate entries since 7.6.x somewhere , the change I think is that they are now even easier to get as the latest code is case sensitive so the need for tag corrections greater so folks fiddle a bit more with the tags in this transition , thus the problem gets more visible . and if the old code weren't case sensitive maybe it did not create a dupe entry anyway ,but treated it as the same ?

Just a quick question. I just checked the user manual but I don't see if users can create a custom playlist?

I am an iPeng users for about a year or so. Should be getting the new iPad soon. Not a big deal, but do I need to pay for the iPad app or is there a special price for current iPeng for iPhone users?

    Rgds
