iPeng gets confused on extended wireless network
Hi Pippin,
I'm a long-time fan of iPeng (pod and pad versions). However, I've now moved to a new house, and have had to extend my wireless network using an Apple airport express connected to a homeplug. It seemed a good solution since it extends the existing network (with the same SSID etc.) rather than creating a new network. However, when a device with iPeng on it moves from my wireless router to the airport express, or in the other direction, it seems to lose touch with Squeezebox Server. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? My current workaround is to force iPeng to restart.
Thanks
Mark

Actually I'm not sure iPeng can do a lot here. Apps have absolutely no influence on the network connectivity on an iOS device.
Does the browser keep connections?
Do you have the same issues in both directions?
Does it probably get better after a while (if the connection gets lost, iPeng will keep trying to reconnect).
Could you check whether the IP address of the iPod/iPad changes? Some APs run their own DHCP.---

The playlist of Arghhhh
Yesterday on the iPhone I destroyed a playlist trying browse and add an album, as my finger hit the cover instead of the title.
I think I'm using the current version of iPeng on the iPhone. I thought you had been fixing this ?
I tried using Party Mode but even with every option set to off, it is a bit too much.
How about this if you want to keep the shortcut:
When browsing and hitting an album image,
- if the selected player or group has no playlist, play at once
- if has a playlist, show the album as when hitting the album title.4 SB 3 • iPeng (iPhone + iPad) • SqueezeLite • Squeezebox Server 7.6.2 (Debian 6.0) with plugins: CD Player, WaveInput by bpa • IRBlaster by Gwendesign (Felix) • Server Power Control by Gordon Harris • Smart Mix by Michael Herger • PowerSave by Jason Holtzapple • Song Info, Song Lyrics by Erland Isaksson • Just Covers by Tom Kalmijn • WeatherTime by Martin Rehfeld • Local Player, BBC iPlayer, SwitchPlayer by Triode • Auto Dim Display, SaverSwitcher, ContextMenu by Peter Watkins.

Why does iPeng recache everything after it have been in the background for a while ?
When I start iPeng i can get that it shakes hand with the server fetching new album covers for the new music and album menus etc ok.
But if put iPeng in the background and use some other app for a while and then chose iPeng again, it painstakingly reloads all these menus again ?
Can this be improved ?--------------------------------------------------------------------

Ive installed the latest iPeng builds for iPad and iPhone and also reinstalled squeezeboxserver on ubuntu 10.10
Now, for some reason iPeng for iPad and iPhone won't honor the bit-rate limiting options I have set when using wi-fi and will default to no-limit.
I have to start playback and manually go into the server settings and change it =[
Am I the only one with this issue?

Nope.
There is not really something to "fix", it's a feature. It's just not present on iPad because there you have to sometimes hit the cover for actions other than playing an album.
A lot of people actually have been requesting this feature for iPad, too, btw, so it's really a question of perspective.
I was planning to add another option to party mode maybe, but that's not yet fully made up.I tried using Party Mode but even with every option set to off, it is a bit too much.
It's extremely unusual to not have a playlist ever on the Squeezebox. How about this if you want to keep the shortcut:
When browsing and hitting an album image,
- if the selected player or group has no playlist, play at once
Do you see the blue progress bar?
It should only re-request one page.
That's needed because otherwise iPeng can't know whether there might have been changes to the database while iPeng was in the background.
Also, iPeng frees up a lot of memory when in the background to be a good iOS citizen and not to be quit by iOS too early.
How?But if put iPeng in the background and use some other app for a while and then chose iPeng again, it painstakingly reloads all these menus again ?
Can this be improved ?
I believe iPeng overrides the bitrate limiting for itself. The reason is to allow for the use of bitrate limiting with 3G.
I will improve this in one of the next versions but it will be a bit of work.---

Understood.
I'm listening in from a remote location and don't have the bandwidth for no-limit, looking forward to the fix. Guess I'll just use an alternative app for streaming until then. =[
Best of luck. Thanks for the continued support.

Tried finding this on your website but I might have missed it. In the iPhone version of iPENG, you can go to the "more" section and click edit to customize the four shortcuts that show up in the bottom of the screen. Can't remember what shows up there by default but usually artists, albums and two other shortcuts like genres are there.
My question is where does the list that you can edit come from? I ask becaues I used to have "my apps" and "rhapsody" as shortcuts that added to the bottom of the screen. After I upgraded, they disappeared and I can't figure out how to get them back. I tried adding them to my home menu on my controller thinking that had something to do with it but to no avail. strangely, they don't show up on my duet receiver but they do for the controller (i.e., when I select to control the receiver or the controller, they'll show up depending on which device I am controlling).
On a related note, where does the list of shortcuts that appears on the left-side of the iPad application come from (the list that includes albums, artists, apps gallery, etc)? The same thing is occuring there: I used to be able to select Rhapsody, Pandara and Slacker but those options are gone now. I would like to add them back (and remove some of the default ones if that is possible) but I can't figure out what drives that menu.

iPeng Player function 'disappears'
hello, Pippin! I have a goofy problem, but before that, I want you to know what a terrific app this is. I've had it since near the beginning and really consider it a real value. Thanks!
My Problem: My iPod Player (iTouch) disappears from the list of players. It was gone most of today, but just reappeared in the list, both in ipeng, on the controller(s) and in the web server.
When I first updated to implement the player, about a week ago, I played with it for a couple of days and it was fine (nice job!). I was busy with other things for a few days and when I went back to it yesterday, it was gone! Today, it was there for a while then disppeared for a few hours. Back now.
During the intervening time, the only change I made to my network was to add a pair of Netgear PowerLine plugs to benefit one of my Booms, furthest from the router. That works perfectly, but 'shouldn't' affect the ipeng player...???
Here are a few facts that may or may not help: Web Server 7.5.4 r32171, itouch is up to date OS (3rd gen 8GB) and resynced in iTunes. I have 2 controllers, 2 booms, 2 SB3s & 1 receiver, 1 of the controllers is player enabled. The router is SMC WGBR14-N and all devices have a reserved IP in the router table. Added to the wireless items is a SoundBridge Radio and an HP Network printer.
Any thoughts or comments for further troubleshooting would be appreciated.
Thanks again for a great app!
phil broughton
