Well, I was able to rescan, but the files still show empty.

I renamed the path \\n5200\Music\playlists. I did not do /raid/data/Music/playlists, because my music files on the Thecus are \\n5200\Music and yet the meida folder is /raid/data/Music. Is that wrong? Something is wron.

Thanks so much, I fell like we are close.

    And, LMS actually rescanned.

Do you mean that inside the playlist files you did a text substitution, changing F:\Music to \\n5200Music\playlists? No, that's wrong.

If your media folder specified in LMS is shown as

    /raid/data/Music

then that's where your music files are located. And that's where the file paths inside those playlists need to reference.

Replace F:\Music with /raid/data/Music inside the playlist files. And don't add /playlists onto the end.

The path shown as \\n5200\Muisc is how the network share is referenced, i.e. how the path is designated from other computers on the network. It might also work from the Thecus itself, but you're better off using the local file path of /raid/data/Music.

The idea is to reference each song in LMS own perceptive .

Here is an Example playlist from my server . they sometimes contain a bit more stuff like exturl etc but it's filler for LMS, it looks for the path to each file .
It's the path to the files. that is important

And here is a picture how my LMS is setup .

As I said the easiest way to see the full path to a file is to actually create a playlist with LMS itself and open that with a text editor, especially on a NAS if don't want to SSH and figure out it's internal file layout.
Hopefyllu your playslist directory is on the share .

OK, I finally have it working. Yes, /raid/data/Music was the key. Thanks so much for the help, I have been messing with this off and on for four years.

Probably 5 years now, call it a hobby

I was happily running with 7.6.1 for a good while now (note the use of past tense!), but recently noticed a problem with saving new playlists not actually saving (not a feature that we've used much before, not sure when the problem started and they used to work at some point in the past!). Anyhow it wasn't the usual issue of the path being wrong (from the NAS point of view), so I came to the conclusion that a refresh to the current version wouldn't hurt... that was probably a mistake...!

I probs should have read the posts on here before I ploughed ahead, but I too quickly experienced various problems with the rescanning of the library, and my usual approach of a reboot after the install didn't fix it either. With 7.7.2 I eventually managed to get it to rescan the music library but then it aborted when scanning playlists. Same behaviour with 7.7.1, log files littered with errors indicating "unable to open database" so I'm currently regressing back to 7.6.0 (eek-backwards!-not got 7.6.1 anymore!). This seems to have managed to scan, and playlists work OK now - have run out of time to give it a proper check over - I'd be interested to know if anyone else is out there working OK with a 7.7.x version.

Maybe not your issue at all but a common *nix issue , playlist in LMS , you must specify a playlist directory and the directory must also be writable for the LMS user , for the music library it's ok when LMS can read the files but for playlist LMS must also have the rigths to write files to that directory . An issue popping up on varius *nix platforms now and then

Thanks for that Mnyb - my playlist issue has been resolved with all of the uninstalling and reinstalling, so I guess I'll never get to the root cause of that problem.

The issue with the rescanning is more intriguing - it was really bugging me that 7.7.2 won't work on my box so I had another go this morning. For the nth time, a complete uninstall then reinstall, reboot and full scan. I ended up turning on debug for the sql and scanner components. The behaviour is repeatable on my box - it installs ok, but the full rescan aborts having scanned all the tracks and moving onto the playlists. I managed to extract this error from the log, which makes me wonder whether it's an issue with the sql / interpretation of the sql on the thecus:-

At the point when this aborts, the library has been scanned and the music is accessible, but no playlists.
I could then manually opt for a rescan of playlists only, which seems to work:

So, I have a "workaround" - but would be interesting to know if anyone else has experienced the same warnings/errors.
    cheers
