    Duet Controller Battery Questions

I'm considering buying a Duet, and I had a couple of questions about the Controller battery:

    - What is the specific Li-Ion rechargeable battery used in the Controller handset? (I'm looking for specs such as part number, physical size, connector type, voltage, and amperage.)
    - Is it an off-the-shelf battery for which replacements/spares can be readily obtained (e.g. at Radio Shack or cell phone stores), or is it a custom part that must be purchased from Logitech?

If you search the forums, you'll find its the same battery as one of the
high end Logitech remotes. Its not going to be at Radio Shack

    Pat,
Thanks. By the way, prior to posting, I did search the forums on the words "Controller battery" and went through the first 20 items without seeing anything related to my questions. Another forum I use, Head-Fi.org, has implemented Google Custom Search, which seems to return much more relevant results than the standard forum search tools (including the advanced search). Perhaps Slim Devices/Logitech could add Google Custom Search to the forums here. It would really help people use the knowledge base here more effectively.

    Duet Controller Battery Questions

    mine says Li on
    1250 mAh 190582-0000 L-Lu18
    f12440056 l/n L24B

The type is tiny, my eyes are weak, so there may be a typo

I plugged some of that info into Google, and came up with a posting on a French language web site that lists the full battery info as:
    1250 mAh 3.7 V 190582-0000 L-LU18
    S.S/N: F12440056 L/N: 498
    MH10188

The last line of that (MH10188) is a code that identifies the actual manufacturer of the battery, which in this case is Sanyo Electric, although consumers cannot buy this type of item directly from the manufacturer.

The Logitech web site sells the replacement batteries here (under a new part number) http://www.buylogitech.com/store/log...oryid.11817400 for $29.99, and states that they are compatible with both the Squeezebox Controller and the Harmony 1000 remote.

So I guess my questions have been answered. Thanks.

Isn't Logitech a SWISS company? Since the same battery is used in the Harmony 1000 remote control (which is sold worldwide and not affected by Slim Devices' location in the U.S.), why is it predictable that it would only be available in the U.S.? The link I provided was from the U.S. web site. Don't Logitech's international sites also sell replacement parts?

I have no idea whether Logitech is Swiss or not. It is predictable that availability outside the US would be less because that is just how things normally seem to turn out. Many times companies provide spare parts that you can purchase online that are only available in the US, if you are elsewhere you are often just left with the postal address of the local distributor.

That is just the way big companies seem to operate.

There are no spare parts for sale on the UK Logitech website, I don't know about the other non US sites.

Is it possible to get a battery for Duet Controller that has higher capacity than original battery?

IMHO insufficient battery life is on of few minuses for Squeezebox Duet system.
