I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 and Slimserver 6.5.4 on a new box, but unfortunately it seems that I have the problem described in this thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37932
I cannot "Clear library and rescan everything" (nothing happens), playlists are empty and gallery view doesn't work. When I try the workaround described in the thread above I get a message that "packages have been kept back", and if I do apt-get install, it says that "package is not available, but is referred to by another package" and "package has no installation candidate".
I don't have the knowledge to dig further into this, and I can probably live with the playlist and artwork problems. But there must be an easy way to clear the library manually? How can I do that?
Any help appreciated.

Why are you installing 6.5.4? It's quite out of date, so it's not unreasonable that it wouldn't work on the newest version of Ubuntu. Uninstall it, then try installing 7.1 per the instructions in the wiki, then post the results.

Because I want the old one ...
But obviously 7.1 could be an option if I get too many problems.

OK, fair enough. Where did you find the 6.5.4 package? Is it from Ubuntu's repositories, or did you download the .deb yourself, or is it from another source?

OK now
I deleted the /var/cache/slimserver/MySQL directory to force a rescan. Seems OK now.
