Continued success! The windows directory connects
automatically at boot. Now how do I get slimserver to
    start automatically?

Once I solve that the only big thing remaining is to
add a firewall but that is outside the scope of this
    forum.

if you installed the RPM, it should be starting already from the
/etc/init.d/slimserver script. Of course, this is a redhat/mandrake based
script, so you would need something else for distros like SuSe or Gentoo.
Scripts for these have been submitted to the developers list but I dont' think
they have made it into the cvs/server archives anywhere just yet.
