I'm getting sort of frustrated with my ReadyNAS NV. I know that there is a new beta of SC for the ReadyNAS line, but I beginning to consider alternatives. I was hoping to get some feedback on the following ideas:
SqueezeCenter running on:
1. Artigo Pico-ITX system or
2. Asus Eee Box
Music files located on:
A. ReadyNAS NV or
B. External HDD set up of some kind
While the Artigo is great, the Asus Eee Box is slightly more cost efficient (and includes wifi). However, it appears that the Asus Eee Box has a higher wattage PSU.
I have no problem with the ReadyNAS for storing files. I have probably about 400GB of music, maybe more, if I ever manage to rip it all. The ReadyNAS is reasonably low power, I think. I've heard that SC running on a PC accessing files on the NV works fine. And I would rather have network storage than locally accessible storage, since I have multiple PCs. At the same time, I know I could sell it and forget the whole thing, or replace it with some other form of network storage.
Any thoughts about these ideas or others? Thanks.

I would go with the thinclient solution, there is a lot of info about that on this forum. You can find used ones quite cheap on the internet or ebay.
I have a HP t5720 running minimal debian lenny of a usb stick and my music is located on my NAS (a Conceptronic CH3SNAS)

Superfluous?
But won't you feel it's a bit superfluous having a NAS AND a PC, when the NAS can do the job of the PC?
Especially if power consumption is of concern to you.
I understand the benefits (speed) of having a "proper" PC running SC, and have considered doing so myself, but it is the superfluity and excess power consumption that makes me dismiss the idea when I have a perfectly good all-in-one solution running already.
My $0.022x Squeezebox Classics {1x via Switch | 1x via WiFi} + 2x Squeezebox Booms {via WiFi}
SqueezeCentre v7.4.1 on ReadyNAS Duo {RAIDiator 4.1.6 | 1GB Hynix HYMD512M646CFP8-J | 2x 1TB Samsung HD103UJ}

Well the thinclient takes around 15 watt, it goes off automatically with the serverpowercontrol plugin. It restarts in 25 seconds with wakeonlan. The disks in my nas with the music files spindown when not in use. Powerconsumption is then around 5 watt. So when a listen music it is 30 watt and when not only 5.
Performance is way better than a nas, my t5720 has 512mb ram and a 1ghz processor. And they are a lot cheaper then a powerful nas.

i agree with jademonkee and would advise against running two systems when one will do the job.
what seems to be the problem with your readynas?
