    Loud popping scratch noises

    This might be related to the issue that was discussed in
    http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44427

    The bug has been closed recently
    http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7661

    However I am seeing a new and worse problem which I have not seen prior to 7.1

    It has happened a few times in SN and I was able to reproduce locally with SqueezeCenter Version: 7.1 - 22170 @ Mon Jul 28 13:36:57 PDT 2008

    Rhapsody tracks play OK for a long while, and suddenly when the SB3 moves on the next track, there are LOUD popping noises, and the SB3 hangs for a few minutes.
    When this happens the display goes haywire, and keeps alternating rapidly between various states.

    Eventually the next track started playing after a a few minutes on its own.

    I'm not bothered by the hang so much, but the noise could certainly kill someone's loudspeakers

    Logs are in bug 9003

    Here's another incident, see the log around 18:52:10
    When it happens the SB3 output is just **loud** intermittent scratches & pops

    The incident was resolved on its own around 18:54:28

    I've also noticed this warning but it's probably unrelated

    [08-08-02 18:54:28.5270] Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1356) Warning: [18:54:28.5263] Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at C:/PROGRA~1/SQUEEZ~1/server/Slim/Plugin/RhapsodyDirect/ProtocolHandler.pm line 1076.

    BTW the second incident is with a different SB3 hardware than the first so it is not related to hardware malfunction. Also, this has never happened prior to 7.1 upgrade

    One thing I noticed in the logs is that normal track switch printed

    [08-08-02 18:51:59.6771] Slim::Player::Source::decoderUnderrun (607) 00:04:20:12:1a:99: Decoder underrun while this mode: playout-play

    while the abnormal track switch printed

    [08-08-02 18:52:10.0302] Slim::Player::Source:utputUnderrun (800) 00:04:20:12:1a:99: Output buffer underrun (decoder: 88209 / output: 0)

    I hope this helps you to figure out the problem soon.
    When the noise comes on, it is quite startling to say the least

    I'm getting this too with Rhapsody over Squeezenetwork.

    I like the sound quality at the new bitrate but the squawks and popping noises are nightmarish. Is this a variation on the old bug where Rhapsody songs would stop in mid-song and move to the next song on the playlist? It seemed like that finally got fixed, but here it is again, with loud noises added.

    Also, I will never forgive you for messing up my carefully-designed menus. My wife was JUST STARTING to use the Squeezebox by herself without having to tell me to put music on for her. Then the menus all got reset and she threw the remote at me and demanded that I re-install the CD player. Thanks.

    Yikes, you seem to have the worst luck with Rhapsody. Hopefully
    someone can reproduce this.

    The problem has continued all morning, even after power-cycling all equipment.

    It's a pretty awful sound--it is like glass shattering, played on a backwards tape.

    Never had this problem before 7.1.

    When exactly does the popping occur? Is it only during transitions from one track to the next?
