I'd like to file an enhancement request regarding the volume control in the web interface, but I'm not sure which bugs.slimdevices.com category to choose. Any pointer would be appreciated.
And open for general comment/feedback, here it is...
I've been using my laptop a lot recently (while resting up a strained back), and have spent a lot of time using the web interface, and feel the volume adjuster just doesn't quite have enough fine control.
I find that the jump between, say 50 and 60 to be too great, and I end up changing the volume manually to somewhere in between (usually about 1/2 way in between - doh!).
I was thinking that either a (pop-up) slider would be nice, or perhaps after clicking on the existing volume adjuster gadget, the arrow keys could move the volume by 1. Or perhaps there are better ways.
I realize there are probably not 100 volume levels, but there certainly are more than the 10 allowed via the web interface.
Thoughts, ideas, or I'll post an enhancement request, and we can follow-up there.

Hmm. Michael, if you read this. Do you finally have an iThing? If yes, have a look at the new iPeng, I think that's what MrC is looking for, have been missing it on the web IF, too ;-)

I agree - I often find the same.
I often use Moose when I need to control playback from a PC, which allows the volume to be set as a slider bar.
I think the WebUI should have a slider bar - something like the song progress bar. Or the Softer/Louder buttons could increment/decrement in smaller steps (+/- 2), and leave the volume control as it is for coarse adjustment.

You can see how it looks here: http://penguinlovesmusic.de/wp-conte...me-overlay.png
It has a slider that you can drag and while you drag it, it shows an overlay with the volume. Also the volume will permanently update while you drag the handle.
It has 100 values yet I don't know whether the player will really do those.---

That'd work. But I could do without the furry beast!
Perhaps the existing ratcheting positions could be replaced with a slider that looks like the track position slider just below it. Or maybe the small/large speaker icons could instead decrease/increase the volume by smaller increments, and clicking on the ratcheting could remain at the +/- 10 increments. I'm no UI person, so I'd best leave the choices to the experts.

K.
Next time I'll use that one:

Or that one:

Better?

Sure I do.

I'm sorry, no. Still don't have any iThingy. (Oops... is iTunes considered
an iThing? :-))

I've recently added slider bars to the alarm volume settings. I was
thinking of the main volume handler when I added those. But we'd have to
think about how to integrate them with the main layout's look.

Please add an enhancement request for SqueezeCenter/Web interface. Thanks!
Michael
