I’m also a WAV user. I used to rip in Apple lossless until I bought a unit that didn’t support that format. Apple lossless is a propriety format and for that reason alone I won’t used it anymore. I learned that the hard way; I had to re-rip my entire CD collection again.

You could have transcoded from Apple lossless to another lossless format or uncompressed to WAV. There was no need to re-rip.

WAV can easily be converted into something else without loosing quality. No need to re-rip...

As can most/if not all lossless formats, most notably FLAC, which is in fact quite widely supported and almost the de facto standard in music players supporting lossless formats (Apple and likely any Microsoft generated crap aside as both would like to lock you in to their products/ platforms).

But I hope that the digital industry will come to a common lossless format one day, whatever format it may be. There are way too many different formats out there and that is not only confusing but most often a limitation for digital music.
