    You could have transcoded from Apple lossless to another lossless format or uncompressed to WAV. There was no need to re-rip.

    As can most/if not all lossless formats, most notably FLAC, which is in fact quite widely supported and almost the de facto standard in music players supporting lossless formats (Apple and likely any Microsoft generated crap aside as both would like to lock you in to their products/ platforms).
