*BETA* SC 7.0.1 for ReadyNAS with Optimized Scanner

    To the SqueezeBox Community:

We know that ONE of the complaints for running SqueezeCenter on ReadyNAS was the slow library index or scanning performance of large libraries. I am happy to say that we took this to heart and essentially re-wrote the scanner (~5x faster now).

With the help of our friends at Logitech, we believe we've gotten all the metadata formats correct, but would love to get feedback from some folks on their real-world music libraries.

Please download either the 7.0.0 version or the 7.0.1 version from the links below and let us know what you find:

Hi guys, any chance you can provide a patch so we can help improve the scanner on all platforms?

    Hey Andy,

Let's make sure its working properly and people are happy first, then we can figure out what do about the "other" platforms

That might be easier if everyone could run it and see what it does.

Good start, but there are issues

    Just gave it a try.
    Fast it is !

It only took 25 minutes to scan my whole collection (243GB/9462 tracks/664 albums/317 artists), where it needed 1H30 last night.

But, there are at least two issues I can see right now :
    - SqueezeCenter now says I have 18,946 tracks/707 albums in my collection !
    - All my playlists have vanished (and won't be scanned anymore)

I'm pretty sure the first issue is due to those (silly) .AppleDouble directories my (stupid) Mac has spread all over my music directory on the ReadyNAS.

The erroneous stats aren't a big deal for me, but the missing playlists is!!!

    Seb

    Edit
    Confirmed the .AppleDouble trouble :
    Code:
    mysql> select count(*) from tracks where url like '%.AppleDouble%';
    +----------+
    | count(*) |
    +----------+
    | 9462 |
    +----------+
1 row in set (3.22 sec)
This would explain the track stats error, but not the album one.
Which could be related to the fact that my multi discs albums aren't grouped as one album anymore.

    2nd Edit
There's no feedback in the web UI while the scan is in progress, which could be the third immediate issue. Seems promising though.

Yes, they came to my lisps when I first ran the scan.

It's beta stuff, and it's clearly not working properly yet.
But, apart from these issues everything looks fine on the tag side, and I really do appreciate the gesture.

You can try below. This is compiled on Core2 Duo (Ubuntu 8.04) system. Source code is identical with what we released for ReadyNAS Yesturday.

    http://www.readynas.com/download/bet...4-20080617.exe

    Limitation:
    - scans ONLY mp3/aac/ogg/flac
    - NOT scan playlist yet (to be done for limited format, .m3u, .pls, ...)
    - NOT create album art cache while scanning
    - Bugs and missing features ....
