    SC Index shows atrist and album as No Artist & No Album

    Help please.

    I am running SC 7.0.1 on Windows XP. Have well over 2000 albums that index just fine.

    However I have three albums (all have directory structure that specifies the artist, then album, then the MP3 files) that are indexed as No Artist, No Album. No problem with other albums in MP3 format.

    I have checked the tags using several programs they all look fine & also the albums are correctly processed into separate albums with all the correct meta-data by both Windows Media Player & MusicIP.

    However SC when it indexes puts all three albums together under artist name of No Artist and album name of No Album. I have tried removing SC from the PC (including deleting all directories after remove program has completed) and a complete re-install, plus re-index. Same result. Any ideas?

    Update

    Following my post for SQ indexing some mp3's with No Artist & No Album have done some more digging.
    When SC indexes these files it reports
    [08-05-27 18:44:27.5296] Slim::Formats::MP3::getTag (145) Trying to read ID3v2 tags from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\Marina Rossell\Vistas Al Mar\LLop De Mar.mp3

    [08-05-27 18:44:27.7447] Slim::Music::Info:lainTitle (628) is LLop De Mar

    Now other applications that read MP3 tags such as MP3Tag, Tag&Rename and Ultra Tag Editor all read the tags with no problem.

    Looking at the tags at the top of the file with a data viewer shows a different structure from other MP3 files that SC indexes correctly.

    So I suspect that either:-
    1) The Id tag format is not conforming to spec - but other applications cater for the format. However SC obviously does not cater for the format.
    2) There is a bug in the SC indexer.

    File that does not index correctly starts with the following
    ID3 #vTIT2 Llop de MarTYER  2006PRIV ' WM/MediaClassPrimaryID }`#KH*(DPRIV ) WM/MediaClassSecondaryID PRIV  WM/WMContentID qi=`I @PRIV WM/UniqueFileIdentifier A M G a _ i d = R 9 3 2 2 4 5 ; A M G p _ i d = P 4 3 5 2 7 4 ; A M G t _ i d = T 9 8 6 9 1 1 5 TPUB  World VillageTCON  WorldTALB  Vistas al MarTPE2  Marina RossellPRIV " WM/WMCollectionID  F )LBEkPRIV ' WM/WMCollectionGroupID  F )LBEkPRIV  WM/Provider A M G TRCK  10TCOM R.     Any ideas from tag indexing experts?

    I've sometimes seen files that display tags ok in mp3tag do weird things in other apps. Suggest setting mp3tag to read only id3 v2 (that assumes your files have got v2 tags somewhere, I'd be surprised if they haven't). The attached two screenshots show the settings (apologies if that's not news!) - highlight the files and select "Remove Tags" - you'll be left with only v2 tags. This method has sorted weirdness out for me in the past.

    Worst case scenario setting mp3tag to remove all tags (including v2) and retagging from scratch will almost certainly fix it.

    I had the same problem. To fix it I deleted all the tags and start over. In Mp3Tag, select all the tags, right click, select extended tags, then hit the X in the LH pane. This clears out all the tags, then you can retag it.

    I've had to do this as a last resort a couple of times. One troublesome example was a large compilation 'album' (Rolling Stone top 500 of all time). For some reason about 30 of the tracks would show up as their 'own' album. Showed up on SC 'album view' as 30 separate albums all with the same album art. I checked everywhere for bad tag info, but after nearly tearing my hair out, eventually used MP3tag to delete all tag info leaving me with the bare MP3 files. Then rebuilt the tag info using Tag&Rename. That did it. I tried solns like id3v2 only, but that didn't do it in my case.
