I don't know. AlienBBC worked on my TS-409. The other x09 devices might just be not powerful enough, at least for certain streams. There's not much more one can change about this, I think with a given hardware and, probably, mplayer version.

Thank goodness for this. Both the question and answer I was looking for. After the last fiasco I had with my NAS I shudder at the very thought of installing new software. However, I hope I'm not missing out on anything. My NAS has worked perfectly so far since I got it up and running via this site and has been on for three weeks solid (approx). I have only ripped 80GB of Flac files to it and still have hundreds more CD's to do but it works fine

I manged to get your install to work fine on my 109 Except for the AlienBBC portion which would constantly start up, get to about 5/6 seconds and then re-start. I am really hoping the firmware implemented version will help, even though Andy has put out a warning. I am puzzled, however, because AlienBBC was working fine with 6.5

A hint in this post by "QNAPIvan" as to how SC7 will be included for the qnaps including the old x01s.
The firmware is tested in QNAP lab and we expect to have the firmware for beta within 1 week.
We target to demo it in Computex and deliver the official firmware in early of June.
And a brand new service package architecture, QPKG, will also be introduced together with the new coming firmware. For general users to install the nice open-source package can be as easy as uploading a firmware file. The first available module will be SC7 and a famous download application. There is no need for dummy user (like me) to struggle/find out how to SSH/ telnet to the NAS and go thru the complicate/ difficult process of installing 3rd party applications in command line mode. QPKG is also the way we are working to resolve the limitation of flash-size of TS-101/201 and enable more possibilities for TS-x01 user to have the nice features/services of TS-x09.

So, would the qnap version of SC7 be like an image file of SSODS and SC7 installed on TS-x01/TS-x09? I wonder if there would be any difference in the performance or which version of SSODS would be included.

New Qnap Firmware Release - BETA VERSION RELEASE
Qnap have just posted the latest firmware for TESTING which includes what we on this forum have been waiting for over recent months.
TS-109/209/409 Std/Pro Beta Firmware (v2.1.0 Build 0602)
REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A BETA RELEASE SO USE IT AT YOUR RISK.
http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=120&t=5545
Below are Andy's words announcing this release.
Hi Guys,
For the past month we've been working on bringing the surveillance station to the NAS and yes it's finally here
and will be a part of standard functions from now on. The now built-in surveillance station currently support a
number of well-known IP-based network cameras capable of 2 channels real-time recording, 5 real-time monitor
modes. Besides we've made the recording interface to be user-friendly, intuitive yet powerful enough to handle
all the functions and needs to turn your NAS into a surveillance station. To see whether or not you camera is
supported or if you are planning to get you hands on one soon. Here's the current supported camera list.
Besides the NVR integration with NAS, we'd also like to introduce this brand-new software platform/framework
called QPKG that is aiming at simple installation for the users as if they were updating the system firmware.
QPKG is also designed for developers to build and add their software packages support on the standard QNAP NAS
firmware. You may find a more detailed description and background of QPKG here.
There are currently 5 QPKG software packages available for all the QNAP users to install and try out. It also serves as
the demonstration purpose for the developers out there. Anyone who'd like to provide your great software applications
to the communities you will now be able to do so by simply following our development guideline and using our scripts
to pack your work into a single .qpkg file which can then be installed onto QPNA NAS via the NAS system firmware
update page. Details of the guideline will soon be published so stay tuned.
Below's the MLDonkey installation guide:
MLDonkey installation made simple via QPKG
It definately sounds that Qnap have taken a major step forward - well done Andy who has been greatly assisted by flipflip with the SC7 installation package.QNAP TS-239 (v 3.7.3 build 0801T). Seagate Barracuda ES 1000GB x 2.
