Alien BBC not working with SC7 upgrade ?

I'll double check the contents of recent dmg and update Alienbbc for next release which will have changes for 7.1

Adding a note on the AlienBBC wiki entry would also be useful but only if the "kite" problem is solved.

There was a problem with some builds of OSX MPlayer. Can you run the "kite" test described in this thread http://forums.slimdevices.com/archiv...p/t-43214.html

Turns out it's not fixed! Bizarrely, it worked for a couple of minutes, but then stopped. You can still see all the stations, and when you click one it tries to connect repeatedly but never actually does. On checking the console log file, I get repeated instances of this log and response:

PS - if I type "mplayer" in a terminal it says "mplayer not found", so I guess it's not actually in my $PATH. There have been previous posts that refer to mplayer being in /usr/local/bin. I don't actually have that directory - only /usr/local/lib, which is where the codecs I downloaded along with MPlayer are sitting. not sure if they're doing anything....

Given that mplayer sits buried in my Applications folder, do I need to add that location to my $PATH? It would be
/Applications/MPlayer OSX.app/Contents/Resources/External_Binaries/mplayer.app/Contents/MacOS/

bpa - thanks for the response. When I paste the weblink for the "kite" test you refer to, it opens automatically in RealPlayer (and plays in stereo just fine). I can't save it to my computer.

I know I won't be able to execute the command successfully, though, as when I type "mplayer" in the terminal it says "command not found".

I was going to re-install MPlayer using the sub-version link instead of trying to use the package version - good idea? Maybe it would get added to my $PATH properly that way.

I think you are getting some network problems from BBC and streams are disconnecting. You may have "repeat" on and so SC will reconnect to the stream and so on.

The mplayer.sh has the fullpath to mplayer so there should be no need for to add the full path. I check the recent dmg and you are correct - Mplayer developers have dropped the "-intel" in recent dmg builds.

If the /usr/local/bin directory is not present you will have to create it and then copy a version of mplayer into it. This was the normal practice in previous version when users had to extract mplayer from a dmg. I don't think you need to do this.

Tried using the subversion and rc2 source downloads (copied into Applications/mplayer and ran ./configure as per the Readme file). It didn't work - got this log / error:

I also tried making a directory /usr/local/bin as you suggest, but amazingly (as I'm the computer administrator) permission was denied... any suggestions? Or should I wait until you've had a look at the dmg file?

I don't have a Mac so I can't help on specifics about /usr/local/bin.

In terms of prebuilt mplayer - you could try the Triode mplayer which can be found here. http://www.x2systems.com/alienbbc/mplayer_intel_osx.zip

Triode's mplayer was built to overcome the "kite" problem.

As bpa says, there should be no need to copy mplayer anywhere, the mplayer.sh should deal with tht.

If you want to test mplayer, you need to find it, deep inside MPlayer OS X. Then (neat Mac trick) drag-and-drop of the file into Terminal automatically inserts the full path to the file, and you can add any parameters you need to try it.

/usr/local has read and write access to it for system, but only read access to admin users. So to create /usr/local/bin you will have to sudo the command to create it. Or, if you don't like Terminal, I think that downloading lame and installing it gives an installer that asks you to authenticate and so is able to create the folder itself.

As to AlienBBC not working, I think you need to give a longer log for any help (see my log in another thread).

I've had troubles recently (since 7.0.1, I think). Usually it works, occasionally it doesn't. I'm not sure why, though I have a hypothesis. The times it hasn't worked, restarting the computer brought it back to life (you could try logging out and back in, which is less drastic, but may not work).
