    "no artist" in tag -- flac

    Hi Slimserver list,

    for some albums, slimserver shows "no artist" and
    "no album". However Amarok and Kid3 (tag editor) can
    see these tags ie in slimserver

    * Title: Garland Hirschi's Cows
    * Artist: No Artist
    * File Format: FLAC

    while Amarok says
    artist: Bimstein, Phillip
    album: From A to Z

    on another issue, when I try to search the forum, I
    am offered an empty file called search.php for download rather
    than a page of search results. strange

    Bye
    Rob

    Parsifal9, what is metaflac (command line tool for flac) telling you?

    Hi SlimDevices list,

    I have upgraded to SlimServer 7.0 (SqueezeCenter)
    and the problem seems to have vanished i.e.

    Garland Hirschi's Cows
    Artist: Bimstein, Phillip
    Album: From A to Z

    all to the good! However SqueezeCenter seems to have a
    few oddities of its own like not sorting artists by alphabetical order ie this is how it starts the artists list off

    Adams, John
    Berg, Alban
    Amirkhanian, Charles
    Piazzolla, Astor
    Sallinen, Aulius
    Britten, Benjamin

    I am looking around for info on this one.

    Within the tag set there is one which can be used to determine the sort order. I don't know what it is called but it's something like ArtistSort.

    Using your examples I expect that there is two tags for the wrongly ordered tracks, the others may also have them. eg:

    Artist=Adams, John ArtistSort=Adams, John
    Artist=Berg, Alban ArtistSort=Alban, Berg
    Artist=Amirkhanian, Charles ArtistSort=Amirkhanian, Charles
    Artist=Piazzolla, Astor ArtistSort=Astor, Piazzolla
    Artist=Sallinen, Aulius ArtistSort=Aulius, Sallinen
    Artist=Britten, Benjamin ArtistSort=Britten, Bengamin

    Where present ArtistSort takes precidence over Artist in sorting but SqueezeCenter always displays the Artist tag, hence they look out of order but were actually correctly sorted according to the rules.

    Hi Zaragon,

    thanks, that's what it is. I have a tag called
    MUSICBRAINZ_SORTNAME in many of the files. I suppose the
    ripping software put it there (I didnt).

    I cant see how to stop slimserver from using it, but it looks
    like metaflac can remove it from all my files in one go.
