    What happened to performance options?

From slimdevices knowledgebase, Answer No. 5969:

"If you have a very large music library, it can take a long time to scan and possibly use up a lot of memory. There are a couple of tricks you can use to optimize this process though. Try disabling Library Statistics and Album Artwork in Server Settings -> Performance. On that same Performance page, you could also try setting the server to cache the database to disk instead of memory (the "Database Temporary File Tuning" option)."

What happened to "Disable Album Artwork"? What happened to "Database Temporary File Tuning"? I found Library Statistics ok, but only an option for resizing graphics, not skipping them completely.

I accepted the SC7 download when I started up this morning. I am now on my third full rescan of the day (they take about 5 hours apiece), since

    a) the installer trashed my old Settings.

    b) one of the settings that got trashed was "Don't Use iTunes." So I immediately start out wasting time scanning a directory that hasn't been used in 12 months.

    c) the settings that got trashed were scattered across multiple panels. Unfortunately somebody had the great idea that, rather than saving a setting telling SC to "do this the next time I start a scan", it *starts a new scan immediately*, so my library gets dumped and rebuilt from scratch when I turn off iTunes (still uselessly scanning My Documents), then again immediately upon changing the directory, then again after I discover that I've lost "Articles to ignore while sorting" (including 2/3 of the English ones) and "Group Compilation Albums Together". I'd have been willing to wait for those till the next time i *wanted* to rescan, if I had been given a bloody *choice*.

If I'm going to have to rescan *again* in the near future I'd like at least, *at least*, to have the scan run in 3:45 instead of 4:55. Help?

    Hi newgrange28

    welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the heads up: this article seems to be a bit outdated.

This should not have happened. What version have you been running before?
What OS? Any chance you got a backup of the configuration file? You could
try to put it in prefs folder, wipe the new settings and start all over
again. The file should be imported automatically.

    > b) one of the settings that got trashed was "Don't Use iTunes." So I

I'm sorry you had an unlucky start. But that setting is presented to you
twice before the initial scan starts (when you select the music source and
on the summary page of the wizard). You should have seen it's been changed
    before the lengthy scan.

Thanks for the heads up: this article seems to be a bit outdated.

So there's no longer a way to avoid artwork scan? If I point it to an empty directory will it stop at that point or will it consider that a fail and go on to walk the music subdirectories anyway?

What version have you been running before? What OS? Any chance you got a backup of the configuration file?

Previous version was whatever the one on the primary download page was as of the day the Squeezenetwork update was pushed (I checked to see if 7 was there yet that day, and it was still the one I had. XP. Nope.

But that setting is presented to you twice before the initial scan starts (when you select the music source and on the summary page of the wizard). You should have seen it's been changed before the lengthy scan.

By "the wizard" you mean the installer .exe? I didn't see those options atall. Oh well.

I do think it's a failing that I can't change ALL the settings on multiple tabs without triggering a scan each time I save ONE of them.
