    Static IP address for Duet

    Hi,

I am setting up my Duet and I can't seem to figure out how to setup a static ip address. Would appreciate help with this.

    Thanks!

From the Duet User Guide ( http://www.slimdevices.com/documenta...r_Guide_EN.pdf ):
    **********
How do I use Static IP addresses with Squeezebox Duet?
If you have set up your network to use static IP addresses, your Squeezebox
Controller will display the message Address Problem – There was a problem
obtaining a DHCP address on your network. Scroll down to Use a static
address and press the center button. On the following screens you can
enter the IP address, subnet mask, gateway address, and DNS server address
    information for your network.
    **********

Thanks. I didn't even find any reference to the online guide in the packaging but I probably wasn't looking very carefully.

Is it possible to set a static IP when a DHCP server is present, to avoid addresses changing if the dhcp router gets reset?

My router has a 'static DHCP' tab in the configuration page, where an IP outside the DHCP pool can be set based on MAC address. Not sure if that helps any, because I don't think the settings persist after resetting the router.

That is possible to do. A network can consist of static and dynamic IP addresses. Just make sure that your static addresses are outside of the pool of assignable addresses.

Most people will assign from x.x.x.100 to x.x.x.120 as dynamic and then they keep the numbers above and below that range for static objects (router, nas, access points, etc.).

On my network my server, router, SB3, print server, and access point are all assigned manually while my laptop and guests get to use part of a small pool of dynamically assignable addresses.

But the problem has nothing to do with networking as such. Rather it is a because the controller does not offer manual configuration unless a dhcp server is not found. An enhancement request is perhaps called for.

Of course you can get by by temporarily disabeling dhcp. But not all have access to their routers config.

Can you not just pull the network plug out? Ah...ignore me, it's wireless
