    preproduction Controller button backlights

I just noticed, after a couple of weeks using my preproduction Controller that the backlights on the buttons are inconsistant.

The four around the wheel, + -> -< and home always light, but the << and || on the bottom row don't seem to ever light.
(I can't claim to have noticed all the time, but its fairly consistant now)

On my early beta Controller, the key lights were consitently lit.

Is there a test to see if this is a hardware or firmware issue? perhaps a bit of a faulty unit?

    Thanks
    Pat

[SlimDevices: Jive] preproduction Controller button backlights

Can you post a picture of this?

In some early units, the pause button was a bit darker than the
others, but the otherwise the illumination was pretty even.

It was the << and the pause, clearly much darker than the others. But I
can't reproduce it at all now. or more carefully,
I would if I could get them to glow at all.

I don't see any backlight at all.

Can I turn it on explicitly? or what turns it on?

    I'm running 7.0.1 r2022
    SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0.1 - 17725 - Debian - EN - utf8

There are 7 LEDs all strung together in series that light up under
software control for the keypad backlight.

Picking up an moving the unit should turn them all on.

Try changing the backlight brightness in settings -> screen, they
should get brighter/dimmer along with the screen.

It was maxed out. I didn't even know that setting existed.
Let me try the early beta unit. Put the battery in on the old early
beta, and all of them are nice and bright.

Now I'll try the settings trick. Gotta do a network update, I have't
used the old one since I got the preProduction one...

OK, beta one works perfectly. When I put the battery back in the
preproduction one it is visible now. To correct my bad reporting,
most of the lights come on, but not the << and the two volume up.down.
I'll post pictures on the forum.

Be warned, its hard to photograph them.

    Very hard to see.

Can you try again but with the lights out in the room?

    Also, hold still!

The camera really wants to flash, and flashing washes it out completely.

Without light, there won't be enough photons to
    make an image.

I can try later to setup a tripod, but its pretty easy to see in person, the three buttons are not lit the rest are.

Are there separate LEDs behind each? or are there gangs where one LED lights a couple?
