From FAQ's on ripstyles.com
"Does the Ripserver support wirelesss (Wi-Fi) connectivity?
Yep, the Ripserver has an optional wireless card. If you configure a Ripserver with Wi-Fi installed, you'll have to plug it in to your network for setup, and then stay wireless after that!"
and Ripfactory.com
"Is it wireless?
Yes, it ship with a wireless card but it must be plugged in once first as a wired unit to set up the wireless link."

Processor speed, ReplayGain, replacing hard drives, SC7 speed,
This seriously looks like the NAS I will be buying to use with a SB duet. It sure is pricey, but the specs are also much better than most other NASs on the market (except if you built one yourself).
Ripfactory: I really appreciate that you have developed such a product - NAS boxes with built-in slimserver are sorely missed! I noticed that the specs on the CPU are differing: One place it says 600 MHz and 1GHz in another. What is correct (I assume 1 GHZ)?
Also I read something about ReplayGain being supported by the end of March, but I think it was referencing to ripstation micro. Is ReplayGain supported on the ripserver?
My last question for you: Someone asked about replacing the HDDs. You wrote that it is possible, but do you include an installation disc as you the OS is not located in flash or ROM?
EDIT: Have you made any throughput testing so that I can compare the speed to other NAS boxes or better yet, do you have links to reviews of the box.
Someone else asked about how fast the SC7 application is on the ripserver. I assume it is much faster than i.e. a Synology 207+. Does anyone have experience with regards to this?Last edited by AndyK; 2008-04-03 at 08:38. Reason: Additional question added

Has anyone here tried the ripserver?
Ripserver, you are not allowed to answer this question of course ;-)
I am trying to locate a bit of personal experience on using the ripserver. I see in this thread that several of you have placed an order but nobody has reported their first experiences with this hardware. Could you give us your first thoughts?
gsawdy, jumma, hobgods? You reported placing an order, have you received it? Does it fulfill your expectations? Any feedback for the forum?
Thank you.

Same question was raised in another thread (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44534). Since I think this thread is mainly dealing with the hardware I won't cross-post and leave my comment in the other thread, which might be interesting for some of you as well. But the short answer is: yes, it seems to be differences between a song ripped with eac and one ripped with Ripfactory.

Ok, I'm the oddball here for sure, but here goes.
Is there a way to tell Ripstation Micro to always store the ripped tracks in a CDDB ID folder (that is, a folder named with the CDDB ID)?
I know that's odd, but I have my reasons

[edit]Ok, downloaded and played with it. The answer is yes, it's one of the file naming variables. [/edit]Last edited by JSonnabend; 2008-04-04 at 08:57.

Hi Christian,
I did order the ripserver and received a recept acknowledging the order. Before I ordered I talked at length with Jonathan who is the CEO of ripstyles. He was knowledgible and able to answer all my questions. He was unaware of any head to head comparisons between EAC or dbPoweramp and Ripstation. My CD collection is in good shape and so I decided that EAC's reputation for ripping damaged disks was not an overriding issue. I went ahead and ordered Ripserver. At the time I talked to Jonathan they were expecting a shipment (first shipment??? I'm not sure.) Those would not have been available for satisfying orders until in April. Since then I think the forum's sentiment is clearly to have SC7 either preinstalled or installable. They may have decided to install it before making the first shipment....I have no information--just a guess.
I have to laugh at myself because I've been an unhappy early adopter before. However, I am willing to cut them a fair amount of slack. It is obvious they are new to the "get-into-it" type of folks that have gathered around the slim devices forums. A new product launch into a well established market like the Squeezebox market is very demanding and this wasn't their prior products' business model which involved dealing with other businesses. I'd venture a guess that they were pretty surprized with the response their Ripserver received from the us and then by the incredible diversity of skills and tallents they are going to have to accammodate. The last thing they want is a batch of negative reviews. So if they are making sure all the "i"s are dotted and the "t"s are crossed, if they are setting up a forum to deal with the early adopter questions, etc. I can wait. I may be wrong but look at the recent experiences with the Duet introduction. SlimDevices have a lot of experience with product introductions to this crowd, an infrastructure in place, and a staff that is comfortable talking and explaining to all levels of questions. Slim folks did a good job, but it did involve a lot of resources.
I promise to post on this thread as soon as I hear anything, take delivery and again as I rip some disks. I'll also try to answer any questions and try to carry out any experiments to resolve whatever questions remain. I have limited computer skills and no knowledge of lunix so that offer has its limits, but I'll do my best. VBG

Exactly the same thing here. Will be receiving the shipment towards the end of next week (by my explicit request), I gather with SC7.
I'll also share all comments/experiences with the new box as soon as I have had time to play around with it - most importantly share statistics on the quality of ripping and tagging.

Awaiting my Ripserver
Christian,
I am awaiting my Ripserver that I ordered from Ripstyles and expect that it will ship out this week based on the last I had heard.
I will post a report once it lands as I am particularly interested in how they fit the 2nd hard drive inside the Nexus Psile case, which is only designed for one.

Some basic questons.
Some very basic questions that I can't see fully answered yet. Sorry I'm not familiar at all with linux. If I use the Ripserver will I stll be able to see my music just like I do now and have the same access to it? What I mean is, will I be able to use explorer and right click and choose to use Dbpoweramp or mp3tag to tag or convert music? Will there be limitations with some window programs using the folders and files the music is stored in? Will I be able to rip with dbpoweramp or EAC to the new music folders? Right now I use a folder with shortcuts to my music stored in 2 folders, one with Flac, one with Mp3, will this still work with the Squeezebox in the new setup? I'm pretty experienced with Windows and Music, just not at all Servers or Linux. Thanks
If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use is the rule.

Thanks
