Hey.
My TP makes an ugly, loud, and potentially destructive pop when I try to use the digital inputs. As I learned in a related post, that problem was solved w/firmware ver. 33. Unfortunately, I am only running 31.
I was told that I need to run SS/SC 7.0 to update the firmware. However, I am currently running 6.5.4 and 7.0 will not work on my Thecus NAS until 7.0 is formally released and someone is kind enough to build a module that allows me to install it on the NAS.
Anyway, is there another way to update the firmware prior to installing 7.0?
Thanks.

Yep, I'm using firmware 33 with 6.5.4 OK. Download the latest nightly 7.0 build and extract the 'transporter_33.bin' file to the ..\firmware directory where slimserver is installed.
Edit the transporter.version file to read -
# Transporter firmware
#
# from to
# from1..from2 to
1..33 33
# future versions may be downgraded to this one
* 33
Press and hold brightness on the remote to force the upgrade.

I've tried this method for updating my TPs firmware but it doesn't seem to work. When I press and hold the brightness button my TP keeps telling me it can't connect to the internet, then it acts like it's installing new firmware and shuts down for about 20 seconds or so, starts back up, but when I check the firmware version it still says 31.
(I should specify that all this is AFTER placing the 'transporter_33.bin' file in the appropriate directory and editing the 'transporter.version' file as described in the post above.)
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Did you try restarting the server / service?

don't connect to server
just connect thru the player to the squeeze network
do a long press on the brightness button on the remote
if your player is conncted to the internet/squeeze network (not local server) then regardless of the version of the slim server
the player will update its firmware
mine has updated to version "81"Last edited by spooky; 2008-02-01 at 08:44.

Thanks. Interestingly, I tried that as well. It looked like it worked fine but my firmware still says 31.
Also, wouldn't the problem with that be that it would in essence be 'going around' what I did on my hard drive (i.e. placing the version 33 firmware in the proper directory, etc. as decribed above)?
I will try the Squeeze Network version again though.

81 is the current production firmware for the squeezebox.
Joe wants to update his transporter to the latest beta firmware.
Connecting to squeezenetwork will only allow him to reload the current production firmware 31, which he already has installed.
@Joe
The latest nightlies come with TP firmware 36. Make sure you replace 33 with 36 in amcluesent's instructions.
After restarting the server the TP should reconnect and prompt you to update the firmware. You shouldn't need to force an update.

the firmware is burned to the player itself
it is independent of the slim server
though a newer version of the server will force the player
to upgrade the firmware
