SB3 or Transporter into quality external DAC

    Guys,
I`m not fully clear as to whether there is any real advantage in the Transporter over the SB3 in the above arrangement, via the Digital out.Is there any discernible difference?
    Cheers.

Largely depends on whether you believe your DAC to be affected by jitter. The SB jitter is decent, the TP's is awesome and offers external word clock to reduce it further.

Yes, it highly depends on what kind of DAC you have.

I used to have a DAC that was supposedly "jitter resistant", and used the same solution as in the Benchmark DAC1. I still found that it sounded better with a better transport.

    Thanks Guys,

My SB3 is connected to a Tact Millenium digital amplifier, which may be thought of as a powered DAC.
Originally I had a SB1 as my source which I replaced with a SB3, resulting in a definite improvement in overall sound.Whether this is due to lower jitter in the SB3 I`m not sure, as I don`t have the relative measurements, although I do suspect the Tact is suspect to jitter.

TACT gear can be rather jitter sensitive and the SB2/3 is MUCH better than the SB1 in this respect.
You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...

you can't beat a better source .....I'm making the assumption that the transporter dig out is better [more accurate?] than the sb3...

but a better dac should sound better than mediocre dac with the same source ...not forgetting the cables connecting will influence the sound.

A transporter and good dac will sound better than sbv and cheap dac ...but transporter and cheap dac may be no better than an sb3 with a good dac !
