Is audiophilia a communicable disease? Or a psychological condition?

It's a condition that can be solved with implants of science and logic, or the more traditional method of electro-shock therapy.
So many times I see posts like the original poster in this thread and want to respond. I normally give up after about 30 seconds of writing a response because I know it will make no difference to explain the logical flaws in their arguments because they will refuse to accept that their perception is flawed.
You know what makes the best difference for sound in my audio system? My vacuum cleaner. After I spend an hour or two cleaning the house I like to sit down in my nice clean living room and listen to music for a while. Why does it sound better? I'm happy that I did a good job cleaning. The room is organized well, no more clutter. I was moving around, lifting furniture, and have a micro workout high.

Enyone that spends there time posting and reading on hifi forums are more or less infected with audiophila.
Some beleive in cables, mods, tweaks,or Linn and some only beleive in adam slim and that enything else is a wast of time.
But all still audiophils none the less.
The irony is many on this forum uses the word audiophil as a bad thing.

Rub yourself liberally with snake oil and bow down before the great gods of exotic gear with stratospheric price tags. Do this enough times and any commonsense you may have had flies out the window, along with all sense of proportion . . .

Seriously tho' - the sad thing is how many people get converted to the religion and line the pockets of the cult leaders with their money (hard-earned or otherwise).

The thing is, *some* of this stuff is not just a matter of belief, it's
just not possible. The changes made simply can not have any effect on
the sound.
A question: if I send you two copies of the same CD, one in a blue
envelope and the other in a yellow padded envelope, which one will sound
better?
The answer is, of course, that as long as the CD makes it to you through
the postal system undamaged they will both sound identical.
This is analogical to using fancy ethernet cable - it can not and does
not have any effect on the sound. As long as the bits get through, all
ethernet cables will sound identical.

In my world, audiophile *is* a bad thing. I prefer the term "audio
enthusiast".
