Yes, you'll burn more CPU - but probably not enough to impact playback.

I'm going investigate this further later. It would help me debug the
problem if you could email the output of "showrev -p" to
jasonholtzapple (AT) yahoo (DOT) com. Knowing the patch differences between your
system and mine might offer some clues. Also, what nic are you using?
